"The original and still one of the very best Serengeti mobile camps. This is authentic mobile safari at its very best. A top-notch property."

OVERVIEW:

Run by high-quality safari operator Nomad Tanzania, Serengeti Safari Camp is one of the best mobile tented camps in Serengeti National Park, and it’s fair to say a class act. The focus here is entirely on the Wildebeest Great Migration, and the camp moves location 4–5 times each year to zoom in on its movements. This is old-school safari at its best, with a home-away-from-home feel complemented by comfortable tents and quality service. Offering great value for an experience of this calibre, accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, game drives, transfers between camp and the nearest airstrip, and a laundry service.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

As a mobile tented camp, Serengeti Safari Camp moves between locations in pursuit of the wildebeest migration. The camp is situated on Serengeti National Park’s southern plains from December to March, moving northwards to the Moru Kopjes region by April/May and up to the Grumeti River in June and July. From August to November, the focus is the notorious Mara river crossings. Please contact us for more information on when to go.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SERENGETI SAFARI CAMP:

Guest accommodation at Serengeti Safari Camp consists of six open-plan, Meru-style tents, including one two-bedroom tent for family use. An outer layer of canvas extends over the inner structure to create a shaded veranda furnished with campaign chairs and a small table, ideal for soaking up the Serengeti views. Inside each standard tent are comfy double or twin beds, storage trunks, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, and luggage racks. Mesh windows provide ample airflow while keeping the mosquitoes out, with draw-back canvas curtains for extra privacy. En-suite facilities are found at the back of the tent and comprise an eco-flush loo, a washbasin with a vanity unit, a separate bucket shower cubicle with the provision of hot water, and a hanging storage space. Also provided are a few useful items, including solar-powered lights, a torch, and an emergency air horn. The family tent benefits from an additional bedroom for children and an interconnecting lounge.

Serengeti Safari Camp’s mess tent includes a welcoming lounge with a selection of reading material and a well-stocked help-yourself bar. There’s also a place here to charge photographic equipment in preparation for the next day’s safari. In the open-sided dining tent, guests are seated on campaign chairs around a long table ready for communal meals. Outside dining is also offered, with evening meals frequently served informally around the crackling campfire. The atmosphere of this authentic little camp is brilliant – guests feel at one with nature, fully immersed in the bush experience, without compromising on comfort and service levels.

ACTIVITIES AT SERENGETI SAFARI CAMP:

Serengeti Safari Camp is all about game drives with a focus on the Serengeti’s Great Migration.

  • Game drives

    – Expertly guided game drives take place in the early morning and late afternoon, with the option of requesting a picnic lunch and remaining in Serengeti National Park all day. The main goal here is to observe the Great Migration. If you’re in camp from December to March, you’ll see huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles settling on the southern short-grass plains, with calving around February. The herds move into the Moru Kopjes region in April and May, and the rutting season begins. June–July and August–November are river-crossing periods, with the herds traversing the Grumeti and Mara rivers. All drives are accompanied by expert safari guides, who are happy to share their knowledge with you. The Serengeti supports a magnificent array of wildlife, and highlights, depending on your location, include all the big cats, elephant, buffalo, hyena, jackal, wild dog, and an astonishing assortment of antelope species.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Absolutely incredible!! The set up of this camp is truly amazing. There is a common area where everyone eats and can grab drinks which was beautifully decorated and very intimate during dinner. The rooms definitely exceeded my expectations. They were spacious and had everything that we needed. I was nervous about bugs entering the tent and we did not have even one as the staff sprays bug spray in the room every morning after we leave. The food was the best we had during our time in Tanzania. Every night was a gourmet three course meal with any beverage that you want. During our game drives, the guide set up a breakfast in the middle of the Serengeti and this was truly an unforgettable experience.

A fantastic experience, feels like real Africa. Their claim of taking you to see the great migration was fulfilled, even though the rains conspired to make it difficult. Accommodation is extremely comfortable, food and drink is fresh, tasty, varied and excellent, everything runs smoothly (despite the obvious difficulties of being a mobile camp in the middle of the bush), their guide (Edward) was superb, patient, determined and knowledgeable and everybody made us feel as the most welcomed friends. We were sorry to leave and strongly recommend this camp to follow the migration (and not only, we saw much more than that).

Authentic "old fashioned" safari experience. Excellent service, very good food (including allergy accommodation) and fantastic wildlife all around. The migration river crossing is a memory we will never forget. After your first trial, the bucket showers become easy to do and even learning to use the compost toilet was no problem. Wildebeest and Zebra surrounded the camp each night we were there and you could hear the animals feeding on the grass right outside the tent! Serengeti Safari Camp is at the opposite end of the spectrum from a fixed site luxury lodge but the experience of a "luxury safari from 100 years ago" was exactly what we wanted. I would highly recommend the camp to anyone.

Bucket showers and composting toilets.....I definitely am going to get these at my cabin at home! The staff is so caring and has great attention to detail. Food is delicious. Attention to environment is very good. Musa was our guide, and he knows the animals. You can go off road in the Serengeti, and it was a great experience. As we booked through Yellow Safari, they used Nomad-Tanzania as the local guide. We stayed first at Entamanu, and they gave us a great introduction and hand off to the mobile camp. We really enjoyed the people, and my wildlife photography improved.

Beautiful peaceful setting surrounded by wildlife. A mobile camp so no plumbed toilets or showers but still luxury camping with amazing service and food and a lovely communal area for eating and relaxing with a fire pit outside to sit around and enjoy the evening sky and night sounds before dinner. A real safari experience in comfort!

Absolutely amazing. Very expensive but worth every penny. Our very informed guide helped us to see everything that we wanted and the excellent staff and facilities meant that, despite 5.30 am starts most days, we felt truly pampered throughout our stay. Wonderful dinners with other guests and our guide each evening always rounded off amazing days and made us feel very special - and very lucky to be able to have this experience.

This camp was amazing. Very clean, safe, food was very good and the staff were even better. We had not complaints about anything and plus side also was that they did our laundry every day so we could have packed even lighter than the 33 lbs per person and been fine. We truely enjoyed out time at this camp and hope one day to come back. Thank you everyone who made our stay possible and enjoyable.

The staff is friendly and very helpful. It's a mobile safari camp so the accommodations are not quite as nice as the permanent camps but very serviceable. I loved the food at this camp. They even made a special birthday cake for my friend and included all the guests in the celebration.

We were here for 4 nights. Once again everything was perfect. Geoffrey and Norman were always trying to find us the best river crossing, lion family encounters and share their great knowledge with us. Because we were there longer, sometimes we wanted to change the schedule a little. It was never a problem.

This was my favorite camp. The best guide Mussa, the atmosphere was just like out of a movie, the open tent common area, the stars, the sounds of lions at night, bucket shower at the perfect temperature, the food and the candlelight dinners with new friends. The staff under the direction of Humsa was friendly, professional and fun. Doesn't get any better.

A moveable tented camp with wonderful mattresses, and hot wanter bottles for your chilly feet at night. The food was 5 star and served in the manner of "fine dining". The guiding was superb, with the "great migration", cheetah kill, python larger than both my legs, so many animals to see. What stands out most, as with the other camps we went to, was the kind and gracious people.

This is a mobile tent camp, which means it is designed to be taken down and moved periodically. Some people may not be accustomed to it being more tent-like than other camps (i.e., canvas walls, floors and ceilings and more basic bath facilities.) The eco-toilet is basically like a porta-potty that only provides 10% of the normal amount of water for flushing. This can take a bit of getting used to. Also, the wildebeest surround the encampment and grunt thru the night. Wildlife is close to camp. However, the food is very fresh and well-prepared. The game drives were conducted with some of the most knowledgeable guides in the Serengeti area.

3 nights spent at this camp. Excellent service provided by Hamza and his team. Plans made during the evening for the following day whilst sat around the Serengeti television (the fire pit). The food was remarkable considering where we were! We were provided with a picnic breakfast to take out on our game drives so we could get an early start. Our guide looked after us and showed us all that the Serengeti has to offer. Be prepared for the dusty conditions when it is so dry, but the camp does provide a free laundry service. There is something quite surreal about lying in your very comfortable bed at night, in your tent, listening to lions roaring. Or to watch a herd of Zebra and wildebeest wander past during the day. Such a wonderful experience.

The level of luxury provided at this remote camp is unbelievable. My favorite part of this camp was that it was so remote. We never saw anyone else the entire time we were here. The view was incredible, we had large game coming right into our camp. The staff here was wonderful and made us feel so at home. Of all the camps we stayed at, this was one where the other guests were most interested in socializing. This was our favorite safari location as well.

Little more rustic but still very comfortable and would not hesitate going back. Our tents were right in the thick of it all so we had animals around our tents at night and we could hear them during dinner as well. We felt very safe and was a great experience for me and my kids (13,16,18). The people were very friendly and the food was excellent. I would go back to this camp !!!
