The Ocean Spa Lodge is privately owned and run. We think it’s one of the best beach properties in Kenya, perfect for pre- or post-safari beach-time! From the moment you arrive, there’s a lovely laidback pace of life. The accommodation is usually booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, selected watersports (see Activities section below), scheduled yoga classes, one back-and-neck massage per room per stay, one access to the Water Wellness Centre per person per stay, transfers between the lodge and Diani’s Ukunda Airport, Wi-Fi, and a laundry service. Children are accommodated in a Family Suite or Triple Suite, or in an adjoining room if neither of these options is available.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The lodge is accessed via 30 minutes’ road transfer from Ukunda Airport, Diani. It’s situated on a pristine beach in the Msambweni area.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
There are 14 guest suites and a four-bedroom villa. All suites are found on the upper or lower floor of timber, stone, and thatch structures within the property’s grounds. Each has a private entrance, and some have a second bedroom and a separate bathroom, providing an excellent option for small groups and families. The master bedroom features king-size bed with mosquito netting, bedside tables and lighting, and large walk-in wardrobe. There’s a separate lounge area too. Additional amenities include in-room air conditioning, telephone, mini-bar, safety box, free Wi-Fi, and hairdryer. En-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins with mirrors over, and walk-in shower. Organic bathroom products are supplied. Outside, there’s either a veranda or a portico, where you can relax and marvel at lovely ocean views! The second bedroom in the more spacious suites has twin beds, suitable for adults or children. And the villa, known as Coral Villa, offers two double bedrooms and two triple bedrooms, accommodating a maximum of 10 guests. It can be booked on an exclusive basis, at full price, for a minimum of six travellers – for more information, please contact YZ.
By far the most striking communal facility at Ocean Spa Lodge is the property’s immense infinity pool, complete with spectacular sea vistas! The banks of this amazing feature are laden with sunloungers and parasols, and it really dwarfs the main buildings. That said, the interiors are very pleasant. In the lounge, you’ll find plenty of comfortable seating around coffee tables, while the restaurant has chic individual tables and a well-stocked bar. These spaces are open sided, so you can enjoy the beautiful views while resting and tucking in to delicious meals. There’s also a library for quiet time, and the SPA & Water Wellness Circuit offers relaxation area, fitness area, rainforest emotional showers, and hydro-massage pool. The spa incorporates a yoga and fitness studio too. And the shop sells a great range of locally made items, so it’s perfect for finding some really special souvenirs!
Activities from Ocean Spa Lodge come under two categories – In House (complimentary) and External & Day Trips (available at extra cost). The first category includes yoga and massage treatments as detailed in our Overview, flui-ball classes, table games (such as backgammon, chess, Monopoly, and Scrabble), and outdoor games (beach volleyball and bowls). You can also head off on guided walks to explore colourful coral reefs or a traditional Msambweni village. And numerous watersports are available from the lodge’s own centre – body boarding, kayaking, snorkelling, stand-up paddle boarding, and more! Additional water activities provided at cost are windsurfing, kitesurfing, deep-sea fishing, boat trips with a local fisherman, dhow excursions in Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park, and 2-hour explorations of the Mangrove River aboard a motorised canoe. You can even enjoy a tandem skydive over the lodge’s beach! Safari experiences are offered as well, in the form of one-day game drives in Shimba Hills National Reserve and three-day flights to Lions Bluff, Galana River, or Amboseli National Park. These activities are perfect for wildlife enthusiasts opting for a long stay at Ocean Spa Lodge.
