"A comfortable boutique hotel better suited to couples than to families – we like AfroChic, but we do feel there are more stand-out properties with real wow-factor that make for a better experience."

*AfroChic is temporarily closing from October 2022 to December 2023 for an exciting renovation and refurbishment programme*

OVERVIEW:

AfroChic ticks a lot of boxes! Due to its sophisticated style it tends to be more popular with adults than with teenagers, but everyone loves the beach location and all those activities. Another great property from Elewana!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The hotel is positioned at the end of a 200m driveway off Diani Beach Road. This is a boutique hotel situated on the north side of Diani Beach, a fabulous location for watersports as well as a brilliant base for exploring the region!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT AFROCHIC DIANI:

Contrary to its name, it has the style of a European property, with slim bright white pillars and primrose-yellow walls. Its grounds, however, are filled with coconut palm trees, while a swimming pool curves exotically around the ground floor areas, linking the house with the beach. The ground floor is home to AfroChic’s communal spaces – a lounge, a dining area and a pool terrace, all very comfortable and including plenty of well-cushioned wicker furniture, glass-topped coffee tables, sunloungers, lounge-swings and other seating in a variety of styles. And the views, of course, are amazing – all the way down to the beach, with its soft white sands and sparkling turquoise waters!

Spectacular views of Diani Beach are also available from the balconies of seven of the ten guest rooms, while the other three look out over the hotel’s gardens. There are four categories – Ocean View Deluxe Room, Garden View Deluxe Room, Junior Suite and Executive Suite. All options are individually styled. Some boast a clean contemporary look, others nod to the European flavour of the hotel, some have a rustic tone, and still others are classic Swahili! All are very well appointed. The Deluxe Rooms include a minibar, tea and coffee station, TV with standard DSTV Bouquet, DVD player, i-Pod sound dock and in-room Wi-Fi. Their en-suite facilities consist of flush toilet, bidet, washbasin and walk-in shower. The Junior Suite contains the majority of Deluxe Room features, while the Executive Suite boasts all features in addition to an en-suite Jacuzzi bath and shower!

*Please be aware that the child pool is close to the main pool with no barrier, so take care before you jump in!*

ACTIVITIES AT AFROCHIC DIANI:

Plenty of awesome watersports are available from AfroChic – kayaking, body boarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding. Scuba diving is on offer from the Diani Marine 5-star PADI Dive Centre, with two trips daily and a great practice pool for both beginners and training. Guests can also enjoy snorkelling excursions to the Kisite–Mpunguti Marine Park, with its fantastic coral reefs and astonishing diversity of sealife! You can also explore the South Coast reefs at low tide, with a knowledgeable local fisherman or ‘beach boy’.

Tours of Mombasa Island are possible too – this is a great opportunity to take in a little culture, especially of the city’s old town with its historic port, Fort Jesus and bustling fruit-and-vegetable markets! Wildlife enthusiasts will love taking a trip to Shimba Hills National Reserve and Mwalunganje Elephant Sanctuary, both located less than an hour from the hotel. Keen golfers need only drive for 3 minutes down the Beach Road to arrive at an excellent 18-hole championship course, considered one of the most scenic in East Africa due to its lush tropical foliage and shimmering lake, home to several species of birds and monkeys! And if sea swimming appeals, it is a very short walk down to the beach – staff are well able to advise on the tide times.
