Serengeti Kati Kati is a back-to-basics bush camp where classic canvas safari tents provide simple comforts like hot-water bucket showers. The camp works perfectly as a comfortable base, allowing you to explore the Serengeti on a privately guided safari before returning at the end of the day for sunset drinks around the fire and dinner in the mess tent. Families are well looked after here, thanks to a dedicated suite with two interconnecting tents and a shared restroom. As Kati Kati doesn’t run its own in-house guides or activity schedules, the entire experience centers on being out in your private vehicle all day and using the camp as a friendly place to rest. It offers fantastic value for the Serengeti and is a great option for anyone keeping an eye on the budget.

  • Enjoy full days exploring the Serengeti in your own private vehicle with an expert safari guide. Since you have your own wheels, you can cover plenty of ground, which is ideal for tracking the movements of the Great Migration. The park is home to a stunning array of wildlife, from hundreds of thousands of plains game to predators such as lion, cheetah, leopard, spotted hyena, and black-backed jackals. You’ll also have the chance to see massive herds of buffalo and elephant, and if you are incredibly lucky, perhaps one of the Serengeti’s rare black rhinos.

  • Serengeti National Park is an iconic hot-air balloon destination, where you ascend at sunrise above the golden plains and take in the full magnitude of the landscape beneath. Upon landing, enjoy a champagne bush breakfast before continuing your day of traditional game viewing. Please note that this activity incurs an additional cost.

Access & Location

Serengeti Kati Kati is located in the central part of Serengeti National Park. The closest airstrip is Seronera, approximately 40 minutes by car from the camp. Guests usually arrive by light aircraft, and both scheduled and private charter options are available.

This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Facilities

The two mess tents at Serengeti Kati Kati serve as the main dining space, complete with individual tables where meals are served in the evenings.

Outside, the central campfire is a welcoming gathering spot where guests come together to share sundown appetisers and drinks and swap stories from the day’s safari. Standard beers and house wines are available, so you can easily grab a drink before dinner. Ultimately, the experience here is centred on spending full days on game drives, with Kati Kati as your comfortable but stripped-back bush camp base.

Amenities

Serengeti Kati Kati has ten ground-level canvas tents, plus a dedicated family option that comfortably sleeps up to four guests.

The vibe here is simple and no-frills, with mesh-panelled windows, classic cast-iron beds, luggage racks, and bedside reading lamps. Outside the zip-up front, your shaded veranda is furnished with a couple of director’s chairs and a drinks table, a nice spot to sit back and look out over the plains. Inside, the tents can be configured with either twin or double beds, and each has an en-suite restroom, where the staff will happily provide hot water for your bucket shower on request. Families are well looked after here too, with a dedicated family unit comprising two interconnected tents that share a restroom and porch, providing ample space for a larger group.
