ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ELEPHANT'S EYE:

The main areas at Elephant’s Eye are housed in three separate wood-and-thatch structures. The central building has two stories, with a bar on the ground floor and a viewing deck upstairs. The other structures have just one story each. One is a lounge with plenty of comfortable seating and a small library; the other is a spacious dining room with a long table for communal meals. All buildings have canvas walls that can be rolled up for cool breezes to pass through. They also have spectacular views across the grass area in front of camp, to the firepit, the swimming pool, and finally to a busy floodlit waterhole! There is a spa too, located a short distance from the main hub.

Elephant’s Eye’s guest accommodation comprises eight tented chalets. These are located along sandy paths linked to the communal areas. The chalets are well spaced along the paths and positioned on stilts amid trees. A flight of wooden steps leads into an airy high-ceilinged tent with wooden floors, canvas walls and a thatch roof. The design is modern, with clean lines and a minimalist feel. Guests choose from twin beds or a king-size bed. All beds are surrounded by mosquito netting and it is possible to roll down part of the wall to enjoy amazing views of the bush. Other features include a tea and coffee station, freestanding fan, bedside lamps, electric safe, wardrobe – and even a woodburning stove for the chilly months in Winter! Ensuite facilities consist of toilet, double washbasins and mirrors, bath, and outside shower. And each chalet has its own veranda, with comfy chairs and table.

*Please be aware that we are unable to book this property for families with young children under the age of 6 years, for safety reasons relating to the balconies/decks/walkways.*

ACTIVITIES AT ELEPHANT'S EYE:

Elephant’s Eye offers a great mix of activities.

  • Guests can enjoy game drives either within the camp’s private concession or in Hwange National Park. The park is astounding for its abundance of wildlife – all Big Five animals roam the area, plus zebra, antelope, cheetah, hippo, and almost a hundred other types of mammal! Keen birders are in their element here, as Hwange is home to over 400 species such as oriole, flamingo, heron and grouse!
  • It is also possible to participate in a walking safari, though this must be booked in advance.
  • Local visits can be arranged too, to a local homestead and to the Painted Dog Conservation Centre to learn about ongoing efforts to protect these beautiful creatures. Highly recommended!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
