Staff members are equally committed to their work and have a passion for authentic safari. Altogether, they aim to ensure ‘a safari to remember’, so not only the guiding is great here – the food is excellent!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It is situated in the western region of Hwange National Park, within a private concession and overlooking a wonderful waterhole forming part of Shumba Pans.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CAMP HWANGE:

The main lodge is a beautiful building, constructed from natural materials to blend into its setting. There is a large lounge and dining area, containing formal dining furniture in addition to lots of sumptuous sofas and chairs for guests to feel at home. A small yet full bar completes the interior facilities, while just outside the lodge there is a campfire spot, perfect for enjoying morning coffee or sundowners!

Guest accommodation at Camp Hwange comprises eight tents, all with canvas walls and thatched roof. Most of these are double rooms, but twin rooms are also available. The tents have superb views of the waterhole and are pleasantly breezy thanks to gauze windows and an overhead fan. Other features include solar-powered bedside lights, mosquito nets, a sturdy storage trunk, an electronic safe, and some comfortable rugs and mats. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet, washbasin and solar-heated shower.

ACTIVITIES AT CAMP HWANGE:

Camp Hangwe’s activities consist of game drives, walking safaris, and wildlife watching from hides.
The guiding is of an exceptionally high standard here.
This is a game-rich area of the park, with visitors sighting lion, elephant, buffalo, zebra, kudu, crocodile and hippo! Closer encounters are possible through spending time in the hides, particularly the wood-pile hide adjacent to the camp’s waterhole. This offers some fantastic photo opportunities!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

The Hide was constructed by the Preston family in 1992. We reckon The Hide has loads to recommend it, not least those little hideaways!

Somalisa Camp

Somalisa Camp is owned and operated by African Bush Camps, a company that aims to provide an authentic safari experience.

Bomani Tented Lodge

Run by conservation minded-company Imvelo, Bomani Tented Lodge works hard to help support both the people and the wildlife of Hwange. After your Big Five safaris, you can take part in ‘pump runs’, meet the local villagers or go on a school tour.

Wilderness Davison's

Wilderness Davison’s really is a great place to go to get the most out of Hwange National Park – and the village visits are a definite draw.

Elephant's Eye

It is situated approximately 13km outside the eastern border of Hwange National Park, within a private concession totaling 25 sq. km. It is only 10 minutes’ drive from Hwange’s airstrip. The lodge is fairly new, having opened in Summer 2013.

Somalisa Acacia Camp

Somalisa Acacia is a great little camp for travelers in search of that authentic safari experience. However, due to the prevalence of big game in the area, we do recommend that children are constantly supervised!

We really rate Ivory Lodge, as a fantastic base to explore Hwange – and thanks to the hide, you do not even need to leave camp to see game.

Camelthorn Lodge

We rate Camelthorn pretty highly, for its effortless combination of authenticity and comfort – and, of course, for its interest in ethical tourism. It is a great option for travelers who would really like to get to know the area around Hwange!

The Private Hide

We recommend The Private Hide if you are hoping to travel as a group, favouring exclusive-use accommodation. The accommodation is both authentic and comfortable – and the location is stunning!

Hwange Bush Camp

Hwange Bush Camp is semi-permanent camp, taken down every November and put up again in readiness for the beginning of May.

Hwange Mobile Camp

It is one of several mobile camps operated by Kazuma Trails, a company owned by Antonette and David ‘Bushdog’ Carson.

Jozibanini Camp

Jozibanini Camp is located in the wildlife-rich Hwange National Park. With just five guest tents, it provides a very personalised service!

Khulu Bush Camp

We are happy to recommend Khulu as an exclusive little lodge with everything going for it – and if you have a passion for painted dogs, a trip to the Research Center is a definite draw!

Known affectionately as ‘Little Mak', Wilderness Little Makalolo is a great option for travelers who have an interest in Hwange’s cultural aspects as well as its amazing wildlife!

Zimbabwe's famous close elephant encounters

Zimbabwe is known for its exceptional close encounters with elephants. Mothers regularly bring their babies to drink from swimming pools (there tend to be less predators!). Adding Victoria Falls to the trip offers something a little different to your usual safari, the wealth of activities on offer at the Falls means there is something for everyone!

This place is the real deal, a true safari camp. While the accommodations are a bit more rustic than the other camps at which we stayed, we loved it for the its authenticity. Not luxurious but still elegant. Shane kept the camp running smoothly and our guides, Washington and Andrew, were the best. The food was excellent and the general atmosphere around camp was just wonderful, very convivial. Want to go back!
