If you’re looking for somewhere relatively inexpensive to stay, with unbeatable proximity to the Falls, impressive evening entertainment, and a touch of nature, Avani may just be for you!"

OVERVIEW:

AVANI Victoria Falls Resort has a lot to recommend it overall. The location alone supplies lashings of wow-factor – add the superb communal facilities, comfy accommodation, exciting assortment of activities… and you have the makings of a fantastic vacation!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The Resort is situated on the Zambezi side of the Falls, just 25 minutes’ drive from Livingstone Airport. The Falls themselves are only 5 minutes’ walk away! Shops and attractions are 15 minutes by road and it is very easy to take a taxi into Livingstone Town.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT AVANI VICTORIA FALLS RESORT:

This location is perfect for travelers who have just a short time to spend at the Falls, as you really are in the middle of the action here. AVANI’s efficiently run Activity Desk ensures you make the most of your stay, while the other communal facilities and the guest accommodation, though not super-luxurious, are very pleasant indeed.

AVANI occupies a roughly circular site, surrounded by trees and with the communal buildings at its center. These in turn are positioned around the spacious swimming pool, which is flanked by sunloungers and plenty of parasols for shade. The general appearance of the central areas is very cheerful, full of bright colors and welcoming staff to help you feel at home! The Resort’s Pool Bar is next to the pool and the largest restaurant, The Theatre of Food, is just a few steps away. Another two restaurants are found within the Falls Entertainment Centre, a short walk from the central area. This Centre contains shops too, in addition to the excellent Activity Desk. With numerous lounge areas, a lovely salon, and a rather charming Reception featuring wildlife artwork on its walls, the Resort really has everything you might need – and maybe even more!

Guest accommodation at AVANI consists of 212 rooms, all very comfortable. There are three categories – Room, Family Room, and Suite. All options have individually controlled air conditioning! Each Room has a double bed or twin beds, while Family Rooms have a double bed and Suites have a large double bed, plus extra living space. All accommodation also includes a writing desk, a closet, an in-room telephone, complimentary Wi-Fi, satellite television, a fridge, a safe, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and en-suite flush toilet, washbasin, bath and shower. A hairdryer and insect repellent also come with all categories. Upstairs rooms boast a private balcony, while downstairs rooms have access into the gardens through a sliding door. The décor is wonderfully colorful, with plenty of jazzy stripes and other patterns!

ACTIVITIES AT AVANI VICTORIA FALLS RESORT:

Once guests have settled in and taken in the amazing views of the Falls, it is a good idea to head to the AVANI Activity Desk to find out about all the activities on offer here!

  • If the sight of wildlife such as zebra or giraffe in the Resort’s grounds has you set on safari, we recommend a trip to Chobe National Park for a classic game drive.
  • There is also the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Wildlife Park, plus horseride and elephant-back safaris, as well as canoe trips and walking.
  • If adrenaline-fuelled extreme sports are more your thing, you will want to check out the Batoka Gorge swing and abseiling, white water rafting, quadbiking, and jet boating on the Zambezi River!
  • Travelers who favor a more peaceful pace can opt for river cruises and perhaps a fishing trip in this beautiful part of the world.
  • And those who like a little culture on vacation are well served by various tours of Livingstone town, including museums and the bustling market, and excursions to local villages to learn about the history of the Falls to the present day.

*This hotel is fenced, however being on the Zambezi River means that animals do still wander into the grounds. If you opt to stay here please be cautious and look out for potentially dangerous wildlife at all times and especially at night.

Very comfortable hotel right on the edge of Vic Falls and the ideal place to spend a couple of days at the Falls

This was my third visit to Avani, and every bit how I remembered. Being in the grounds of the national park, there are free-roaming animals in the hotel grounds, so you can wake up each morning to zebra, impala, baboons, vervet monkeys outside your room. Also the giraffes don't walk through the middle of the hotel grounds, they are very close by in the bush, and hotel staff took us on a very short walk to see them feeding. There are also crocodiles on the open ponds. But don't worry, there are security and rangers to make sure you are safe at all times, and we were never once nervous. This stay, our room backed onto a pond, and we would sit out and watch three different species of kingfisher feeding, as well as cranes, herons, and a host of other birds. The welcoming atmosphere and food are excellent - we ate at the buffet or at the pool bar and could not fault the food. I would look forward to my breakfast eagerly every day. And I recommend trying the Malawi shandy - I don't think there was a single day we didn't have at least one by the pool. Access to Victoria Falls could not be easy - a 5–10 minute walk from your room, free access and no need for a guide. Within the park, we had many close encounters with the many baboons there (don't be afraid - they are super chilled out, even those with babies, and did not pose a threat to anyone) - they are fascinating to sit and watch grooming or playing. The walk down to the boiling pot is recommended if you are sufficiently mobile (steep slopes, which can be precarious due to loose gravel, and many many steps, and in places rocks to climb over) ... the scenery down in this part of the Falls park is very different - lush and green and feels like you're in the Jurassic era. There are baboons down here, so you will need to pass by them very closely on the steps, so be aware of that (it's an amazing experience walking inches from them as they look up at you). I also saw rock hyrax on the boulders near the bottom. Where the rivers meet is pretty spectacular, so it is worth walking down here if you can. Last time I was there, I came across a green mamba in a tree overhanging the path, so something else to be wary of. The river walk with the hotel is really pretty, and it takes you through a recreation of a traditional African village where you can see how villagers live, and also browse and purchase handmade crafts if you wish (but there is no pressure to do so). I bought a beautiful handmade wooden bowl for $20. I think you could haggle on price, but it was so lovely, I didn't want to. The river walk eventually takes you onto the grounds of the sister hotel The Royal Livingstone, and you can sit out on the deck overlooking the Zambezi river, and enjoy a drink as you watch hippos and birds on the river. This is where you may also see giraffe. Avani has a really easygoing atmosphere. The Royal Livingstone is more luxurious but also a little more formal - we preferred the more easygoing feel of Avani, and proximity to The Falls. If you like wildlife, I strongly recommend it.
