When To Visit Nyerere National Park:

"Like all Serena properties, it has a great location, however, I usually avoid the Serena hotel chain, especially their small properties, but this camp is worth a look for price alone. A great budget option for anyone wanting a larger property with plenty of onsite amenities... but the standard of guiding is lower than other properties we’d recommend."

OVERVIEW:

Selous Serena Camp is owned and operated by the Serena hotel group and sits by the Zema River, deep amongst the wilderness, with wonderful views of the surrounding bush.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

It lies in Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous), a World Heritage Site, which is home to the Big Five and the largest concentrations of elephants in the world.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SELOUS SERENA CAMP:

The main area consists of a lounge, dining room, library, and bar, all interconnected by wooden walkways. A spectacular infinity swimming pool and sundeck is positioned high above the lodge.

The 12 guest tents are set widely apart and have canvas walls, thatch roofs, elegant Victorian-style bathrooms, and private viewing decks. They are luxuriously furnished with rosewood furniture, crystal chandeliers, and opulent rugs.

ACTIVITIES AT SELOUS SERENA CAMP:

Activities include game drives, walking, and motorboat safari, sundowner cruises, bird-watching, bush and sandbank picnics.
Although this camp is extremely comfortable and the staff are both efficient and friendly, the prime game-viewing areas are an hour's drive away.

This classic camp is one of our favorite properties in Nyerere! Children aged 8 years and older are welcome, but the minimum age requirement for fly camping is 12 years. Access for disabled persons is available on request.

Beho Beho

Beho Beho is the most luxurious property in Nyerere National Park – and one of our favorites in all Safari Africa! Children aged 12 years and over are accepted, and access for disabled persons is available on request.

Kiba Point

We think this camp is perfect for travelers seeking exclusive accommodation in Nyerere! The minimum age requirement is 5 years, and for fly camping it’s 12 years. Access for disabled persons is available on request.

Lake Manze Camp

With its amazing atmosphere and elephant wandering through daily, this is one of our favorite camps in Tanzania! Children aged 6 years and over are welcome, and management is happy to discuss options for anyone with particular needs.

Siwandu Camp

This is a classy and great-value tented camp, with one of the finest locations in Nyerere for wildlife viewing! Children aged 6 years and older are welcome, and access for disabled travelers is available on request.

Roho ya Selous

With a name that means ‘the heart of the Selous’, referring to its position within the particularly beautiful sector of the reserve, Roho ya Selous is a great addition to the portfolio of highly rated company Asilia Africa.

Selous Impala Camp

Impala is a nice little camp, offering excellent value. It is particularly good for boating safaris.

Rufiji River Camp

Rufuji River Camp is located in Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous) near the Mtemere Gate. It offers very good boating safaris on the hippo-covered Rufuji River.
