OVERVIEW:
Originally a family home, The Peech is a contemporary boutique hotel owned by James Peech in Johannesburg’s affluent Melrose suburb, ideal for those in transit or spending a few nights in the city. Besides the selection of stylish, garden-facing accommodations, manicured grounds, and outdoor swimming pools, the hotel is particularly noteworthy for being home to Luke Dale-Roberts’ outpost of The Pot Luck Club, one of South Africa’s most iconic restaurants. A peaceful retreat within close proximity to Johannesburg’s cultural and culinary highlights, The Peech is a great choice for those seeking a small, owner-run hotel with a renowned on-site restaurant.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The Peech Hotel is located in Johannesburg’s upscale Melrose neighborhood, adjacent to the Wanderers International Cricket Stadium and opposite beautiful James Gray Park. Guests will arrive at Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport, and from there it is approximately 45 minutes by car.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE PEECH HOTEL:
Guest accommodation at The Peech consists of 16 rooms and suites, plus a 2-bedroom family villa. Entry-level classic rooms are 40 sq. m and have either a private balcony or a patio overlooking the gardens. One category up, the 45 sq. m luxury rooms are slightly larger, while Peech Suites offer 60 sq. m of open-plan space and the option to accommodate a child in a foldaway bed. All rooms are air-conditioned, and each features a walk-in raindance shower, a mini-bar, a Nespresso machine, and a TV with streaming facilities. The style is cool and contemporary, with a choice of a king-sized or twin bed/s, oak floors, and a chic grey-and-white color scheme. The two-bedroom Peech Villa is designed to accommodate four guests, though it’s possible to sleep a third child at an additional cost.
Communal areas at The Peech include a homely reception area, a library/lounge, two boardrooms, and two restaurants, one being the award-winning Pot Luck Club by highly acclaimed chef Luke Dale-Roberts, open to guests and Johannesburg locals for lunch and dinner. The Garden Restaurant is exclusively for hotel guests and offers informal café-style dining with an outdoor patio for warmer weather and a cosy space with a wood-burning fire for the winter months. One of the boardrooms, known as The Green Room, doubles as a private dining room, well located close to the kitchen garden. The other is conveniently situated just off the lobby and large enough to accommodate 16 guests. Outside, two swimming pools are surrounded by well-kept gardens, and the Patio & Pool Bar is open all day to hotel guests only. For a small charge, guests can access the Planet Fitness gym next door.
