Little Elephant Pepper Camp

Little Elephant Pepper Camp is an intimate interpretation of Elewana’s much-loved Elephant Pepper Camp in the Mara North Conservancy. A classic camp in every sense, it has an unfenced setting on the plains and overlooks a natural mineral lick fed by a seasonal stream, where wildlife comes and goes throughout the day. With a low-impact design focused on simple comforts and 100 per cent solar power, the camp has just three spacious safari suites and one 2-bedroom family suite, each with its own private veranda and plunge pool. As it’s set within a private conservancy, guests enjoy incredible flexibility with day and night drives, as well as guided walking safaris built into the schedule.

It’s really nice to see a new, intimate camp arriving in Mara North. We’re excited to see Little Elephant Pepper and imagine it will be a great option for all sorts of travellers, as well as having the option for smaller groups to take the whole camp to themselves.

Shared game drives in custom 4×4 vehicles introduce guests to the wildlife of the Mara North, where low-density conditions make for exceptional game viewing without the crowds. The predator count is high here, with plenty of lion, leopard, and cheetah sightings, and if you’re very lucky, an encounter with endangered African wild dogs. You’ll regularly drive past elephant herds, buffalo, and vast numbers of herbivores, including Maasai giraffe, Thomson’s gazelle, zebra, eland, and warthog. Guests can also experience the excitement of the Great Migration and its river crossings by spending a day in the reserve with a picnic lunch.
Since the Mara North is a private conservancy, night drives are also possible here, unlike in the main reserve. Accompanied by a guide and a Maasai tracker, you’ll set off into the dark in search of honey badgers, civets, owls, and perhaps even the shy porcupine.
Experience the bush up close on a gentle bush walk, accompanied by an armed guide and a Maasai tracker. Taking approximately 1–2 hours, each day brings something different! Perhaps you’ll focus on animal tracks, see a rare bird, cross paths with herds of plains game, or zoom in on a dung beetle. Each detail is a vital part of the ecosystem. Please note that you should be physically fit to join this activity, and children must be 16 or older.
The camp organises fun walks and activities for kids, including learning how to make a fire, throw a rungu, shoot a bow and arrow, and track wildlife. As a memento, children can take home their very own cast from the tracks they’ve discovered.
Start the day with a delicious bush breakfast hamper, laid out for you in a scenic spot beneath a shady tree, overlooking the plains. Afterwards, you’ll continue your morning game drive before heading back to camp for some afternoon relaxation.
As afternoon turns to evening, it’s time for sundowners around the campfire. You’ll gather with other guests for a refreshing drink and appetisers just as the sun sets over the Mara.

Access & Location

Little Elephant Pepper Camp is located in the private Mara North Conservancy. The closest airstrip is Mara North, a half-hour drive from camp. Musiara airstrip is an hour-long drive from camp. From Nairobi Wilson Airport, it takes approximately 45 minutes to fly to either airstrip.

This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Facilities

The main areas at Little Elephant Pepper Camp are intentionally simple and understated.

A cosy, open-sided canvas mess tent houses the guest lounge and dining area, where the vintage décor features classic campaign furniture, old maps, warm woods, brass details, and suitably soft lighting. Dining is a laidback, communal affair, with camp managers joining guests at the dinner table and campfire to share their knowledge of the bush. The kitchen proudly highlights fresh, locally sourced ingredients for every meal. For some extra relaxation, there’s a dedicated wellness treatment tent that provides a tranquil space for a post-safari massage, along with a small selection of curated local craft items if you’re looking for gifts to take home.

The interior design stays true to the original explorer style, which is so fitting with the Mara, where campaign-style furniture is arranged with lots of wood, brass detailing, vintage kilims, and crisp white linen. Each has an en-suite bathroom with a modern hot-water shower and a flush toilet. The tents open out onto spacious wooden decks, raised very slightly off the ground, with sweeping views of the plains. These are comfortably furnished with director’s chairs, drinks tables, and sunloungers under shady parasols. In addition, each suite has its own private plunge pool, perfect for a quick dip to cool off between game drives.
