Overview of the suggested Zimbabwe safari lodges and activities:

Every safari to Zimbabwe should incorporate time in the country’s biggest national park, Hwange. It boasts the highest diversity of game of any park in Africa, with the chance of seeing 108 different mammal species! However, it’s the elephants that steal the show, with huge herds often congregating around the watering holes. With photographic hides strategically placed nearby, Hwange offers some of the best up-close-and-personal elephant experiences and wonderful photographic opportunities.

As Victoria Falls is located nearby, it makes perfect sense to combine the two destinations when looking at a trip to Zimbabwe. The Falls are a mightily impressive spectacle, but there is so much more to do there! Numerous adrenaline-fuelled activities are available, including white water rafting, bungee jumping, canoeing, zip wiring, and gorge swinging. Alternatively, for those wanting a little more relaxation, why not enjoy a sunset cruise on the Zambezi river to the sound of hippos while enjoying a G&T? There is something for everyone here, and it’s well worth staying two to three nights to fit all these great activities in.

Days 1–3 VICTORIA FALLS

waterfalls and walking safaris, victoria falls

On the first day of your trip, you’ll touch down at Victoria Falls Airport and spend two nights at Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls River Lodge. This is a stunning property, with lavish, breezy suites, and free-standing baths with views out over the Zambezi! Everything about the décor is elegant, spacious, and in neutral colors to blend in with the surroundings. The food is amazing, while the main areas are beautifully appointed and open plan with glorious decking to make the most of the views  and you may even get a few local elephants wandering through! There is an enormous amount to do here, and friendly staff members will help arrange the tours you decide to do. These can include game drives (although maybe save this for the more excellent Hwange!), river cruises, birdwatching, fishing, a host of watersports, village visits, horse trails, helicopter and microlight flights. Victoria Falls is one of the most exciting, activity-laden venues to visit in Africa.

Days 3–7 HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

waterfalls and walking safaris, pair of cheetah

On Day 3, you’ll be transferred to Wilderness Linkwasha to explore the south-eastern part of the park. Wilderness Linkwasha is the finest of the camps in Hwange National Park and located in an area teeming with game, just within the Linkwasha Concession and a short distance from the game-rich Ngamo Plains. The camp benefits from a year-round watering hole that is always busy, and your safari experience is exclusive and flexible here. You can also make a cultural visit to one of the villages on the edge of the park’s boundary - it’s always fascinating to meet the people who call the area their home. It’s a wonderful place for birdwatchers, with a magnificent variety of species in the park. Look out for Dickinson’s kestrel or Bradfield’s hornbill! It’s a fantastic region of Hwange, and this camp really has it all – beautiful rooms, fine dining, excellent service, fantastic guides, and lots of wildlife!
