ACCESS & LOCATION:
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT KHWAI TENTED CAMP:
There are six guest tents, all positioned along the banks of a beautiful lagoon. All are raised on wooden decking and Meru in style, which means that an exterior layer of canvas extends over the inner tent structure to create a private veranda. Set with a couple of chairs and a small table, this is a great spot for relaxing and enjoying your views! Entering the tent, you’ll find a double bed or twin beds, bedside stands and lighting, a couple of storage trunks, a writing desk with universal charging station, and an easy chair. Additional in-room amenities include a standing fan and a tea-and-coffee station. A tall wooden headboard separates the bedroom from the washroom, and the en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, shower, and more storage space. Overall the tents are very well appointed, with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
The communal spaces at Khwai Tented Camp are also very comfortable. It too is elevated above ground level on wooden decking, making the most of the views. The overall structure is in the shape of a ‘V’, with a bar at the narrowest point linking the lounge and dining areas. The lounge features a medley of well-cushioned seating amidst coffee and occasional tables, in addition to elegant lighting, a few wildlife pictures, and a shelf unit displaying all sorts of interesting artefacts. In the dining area, there’s one long table where everyone eats together. All these spaces lead down onto a nicely shaded deck, which offers an additional location for relaxing and tucking in to delicious snacks, drinks, and meals. Head down another couple of steps or so, and you’ll discover the camp’s fire-pit, where guests gather to socialise and share safari stories. The camp has a boma too, and, set back from the riverfront, a splash pool! Flanked by inviting sunloungers, the pool is perfect for relaxing between trips into Khwai and farther afield.
