“African Bush Camp’s newest property and sixth in Botswana. As it’s located in Khwai, game viewing should be very reliable, and we expect the same level of service and guiding we’ve experienced at all of the company’s other camps.”

OVERVIEW:

Khwai Lediba is the latest offering from African Bush Camps, an owner-run company with a reputation for authentic and well-priced properties. Everything you need for a great safari is in place, though perhaps without quite as much luxury as some of the camp’s highly priced neighbours. Safari is the focus here. But the guiding is excellent, there’s an abundance of year-round game, and the welcome in camp is warm! As you’ll be located within the riverine Khwai concession and on the borders of Moremi Game Reserve, you’ll have the best of both worlds in terms of the many activities you can enjoy. However, the Khwai village area, while offering wonderful cultural interactions, can also get quite busy in terms of vehicle numbers. All in all, this is a great new camp at an affordable price in one of the most sought-after safari areas in Africa.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Khwai Lediba is located on the banks of the River Khwai in the Khwai concession of Botswana’s Eastern Okavango. This community-run concession is home to wonderful concentrations of animals, with the floodplains of the Khwai river drawing in plenty of lion, elephant, giraffe, leopard… as well as fantastic birdlife with woodland kingfishers and brown snake eagles among those on display. With the river and Moremi Game Reserve just a short drive away, this is a place of plenty! Access is via scheduled light aircraft into the camp’s airstrip, which is a 30-minute game drive away.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT KHWAI LEDIBA:

With just six tented rooms and a family suite, this intimate little camp puts its emphasis on atmosphere, good guiding, and environmentally friendly accommodations. They have good beds, modern furnishings, indoor and outdoor showers, and your own private decking from which to game-view across the green floodplain or lagoon, depending on the season. The main area has a great firepit for those pre-supper safari tales, a swimming pool for downtime between safari activities, an al-fresco dining area with an open kitchen… and all with views out across the river. The staff are super-welcoming and the whole ethos of the place is comfortable without being lavish. Please note there is no Wi-Fi in camp, for that old Africa feel!

ACTIVITIES AT KHWAI LEDIBA:

The camp benefits from both wet and dry activities, with the Khwai river and Moremi Game Reserve providing the main areas of interest. Please note that, while the camp allows children from 7 years, there are some safari activities that have an older age restriction.

  • Expertly guided game drives

    – Morning, afternoon, and night game drives are available. These are taken in 4x4 vehicles with an experienced guide. They can off-road drive here, being just outside the park, and the wealth of game on show is magnificent.
  • Walking safaris (12+ years)

    – Accompanied by an expert guide, armed for your protection, this activity is perfect for travellers who want to get to know the smaller lives of the Delta, such as the park’s plants, insects, and hundreds of types of bird. You can occasionally track big game too.
  • Cultural trips

    – A must-do is a visit to the nearby Khwai village, where there’s lots to see and people to meet, and you can visit the preschool as part of the African Bush Camps Foundation’s community empowerment projects.
  • Night driving

    – Why not head out on a torch-lit drive? It’s always an unforgettable experience, seeing what goes on in the dark of the night! There are many interesting nocturnal species to spot here.
  • Boating and fishing

    – Explore the Khwai river’s waterways on a boat cruise! This is a relaxing way to change gear on safari, and there’s so much to see – hippos and Nile crocodiles and an abundance of waterbirds. There is also excellent seasonal fishing, which is a delightful way to pass time in the bush.
  • Mokoro canoes (12+ years, seasonal)

You can also view the wildlife of the waters from aboard a mokoro, a dug-out canoe. As the mokoro doesn’t have a motor, you’ll be able to dedicate your full attention to the sounds of the mammals, reptiles, and birds all around you. It’s a magical way to glide down the river.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
