&Beyond Nxabega Under Canvas is an off-grid camp set in a quiet private concession within the Okavango Delta. Small, simple, and semi-mobile, the camp is powered by its own solar plant and designed to leave absolutely no trace. Depending on seasonal water levels, your days are split between day and night game drives, walking safaris, mokoro rides, and catch-and-release fishing. You can also add a scenic helicopter flight over the waterways for an incredible perspective on the landscape. Each morning, your butler will discuss the options with you, giving you full flexibility to plan everything at your own pace.

Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Great value for quality
I am in love with this little camp, it’s exactly what a true Okavango Delta safari should feel like! With only three tents, it strips back the excess to give you an amazingly exclusive, front-row seat to the wilderness. The wildlife is phenomenal, and experiencing the Delta from both a 4×4 and a silent mokoro is pure safari magic.

Scenic helicopter flights

  • Head out on twice-daily game drives in open 4×4 vehicles, departing early in the morning and late in the afternoon before continuing after dark. Your expert guides know the concession inside out and have the freedom to drive off-road for special sightings, ensuring you get the best possible sightings. You’re in prime game-viewing territory here, and could easily come across lion, leopard, elephant, and African wild dog, among many other species.

  • Bush walks allow you to experience the landscape at a slower, gentler pace. Your guide will interpret the tracks, sights, and scents of the bush, bringing your attention to the smaller details usually missed from a vehicle. Depending on what you’re interested in, you might stop to learn about traditional medicinal plants, tracking insects, or spotting tiny reptiles. The birdlife out here is also incredible, with everything from lilac-breasted rollers to brown snake eagles. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars!

  • Explore the Delta’s maze of waterways and lagoons on a peaceful mokoro ride, led by an experienced poler. You’ll glide past papyrus-lined banks, observe dragonflies and butterflies fluttering past, spot teeny reed frogs, and see plains game quenching their thirst. Please note that this experience is seasonal and dependent on water levels.

Facilities

Shaded by ancient trees on the edge of the seasonal floodplain, the open-sided main mess tent at Nxabega Under Canvas is the heart of the camp.

Inside, it’s totally relaxed, with a cozy lounge, a well-stocked bar, and a communal dining table where everyone gathers. You can grab a drink yourself whenever you like, or the team is always around to help out. Dinners are usually hosted outside around the campfire or at a shared table lit by storm lanterns. It’s an easy-going, unpretentious set-up for swapping stories with other guests after a day in the bush. The whole energy of the camp is laidback and easygoing, focusing on getting back to basics without losing any essential comforts.

Amenities

With just three fully-netted canvas tents, Nxabega Under Canvas offers an intimate, back-to-nature bush camp experience.

The design is deliberately simple, reminiscent of the classic explorer style, but without skimping on the modern essentials, such as solar power plug points, standing fans, and Wi-Fi. The canvas fronts roll up completely to ensure nature takes center stage, while the back opens into an en-suite bathroom with a steaming-hot shower and a flushing loo. Outside on your private veranda, comfy reclining seats are the perfect spot to use your complimentary Swarovski Optik binoculars, log daily sightings in your safari journal, or just sit back and take in the sights and sounds of the floodplains.
