kristen black and white 2

Born in South Africa, Kristen spent her younger years in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth before moving to the UK. After some time in Europe she returned to Johannesburg to settle down and start a family. We’re pleased to welcome her to the Yellow Zebra team.

A snapshot

Kristen grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa, but Cape Town is her second home, she still has family living there. She loves the Kruger National Park, especially when she goes with her husband and young sons. She enjoys experiencing the bush in general, from the crisp mornings to sitting around the fire at night. In Zimbabwe, Hwange and Lake Kariba are my favorites, and I am looking forward to seeing more of Africa now that the boys are old enough to travel farther afield.

Recent travel experience

"My most recent trip was a family holiday to Mjejane in the Greater Kruger area, where we had several special leopard sightings – always a treat! I love game drives and teaching the boys about the bush, but I also appreciate sitting on the pool deck relaxing and spotting game, with a gin and tonic in hand."

Kristen's biography

Born in Johannesburg, Kristen spent the first few years of her life there until moving to the coastal city of Port Elizabeth for high school. This is where her love for the beach was born. After school she studied English and Psychology at university, and after graduating she spent 3 years teaching in London and travelling through Europe whenever she had a gap. Kristen later taught in Hong Kong before returning home to South Africa to settle down and start a family.

Most memorable experience

“It’s difficult to note just one specific memorable experience, but I do have two that stand out for me. On a holiday to the Kruger, we were fortunate enough to see a pack of about ten wild dog, which was a first for me. They ran next to the road we were traveling on for the best part of half an hour, and it was fascinating to watch them up close. Another memorable experience was a friend’s wedding in Pafuri. We were almost late for the wedding because an ele had positioned himself outside our room and was not budging off the path that we needed to walk down to get to the Land Rover. Thankfully a guide came to find us when we didn’t arrive in time and ensured we were able to cross over safely.”
