A snapshot

Born in the Cotswolds, Jecca grew up in the picturesque UK countryside, where her passion for nature and wildlife was ignited. Her first trip to Kenya was at the age of 12, and this is when her love affair with the continent began. Since then she has returned almost every year with a deep-rooted desire to explore more of its untamed wilderness.

Expert destinations

Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar.

Recent travel experience

Recently, Jecca was fortunate to take a trip to the stunning Southern Tanzania, and journey into some of Africa’s most pristine and lesser-explored wilderness areas. She visited both Selous Game Reserve, taking a boat safari down the Rufiji river, and Ruaha National Park, where she spent an early morning game drive following a pack of wild dog – a truly memorable experience.

Most memorable experience

“It’s so difficult to narrow it down to just one, but something that does really stand out is catching and releasing a leopard in Northern Kenya.

Whilst living on the foothills of Mount Kenya, a leopard had made its way off Lewa Conservancy and onto the farm, which was causing havoc with the livestock. So, we set out a trap and waited eagerly for a call… the following morning, it must have been around 3am, we got a call from security to say it had been caught. We went out, half asleep into the dark of the night, to find the most beautiful female leopard pacing up and down the trap. I will never forget when she growled and it felt like it went right through my body. Being that close to such a majestic animal was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget. An exhilarating yet surreal experience!”

Jecca's biography

Jecca was born into a family of animal lovers. Her journey from the UK countryside to the wilderness of Kenya, was fuelled by a lifelong passion for nature and wildlife. Driven by a thirst for adventure, Jecca took the chance to visit Kenya over two decades ago, where she instantly fell in love with the diverse landscapes and magnificent wildlife of this beautiful country.

It was after university when she first got her chance to live in Kenya before starting work. This really allowed her to delve deeper into the heart of the country and gain invaluable insights into Kenya’s rich cultural heritage and conservation efforts. She spent her time living and working on a farm, immersing herself into the African community, whilst also taking unforgettable safari trips exploring Kenya’s national parks and conservancies.

Jecca has extended family living across Kenya. Her extensive experience traversing the vast savannas, tracking elusive wildlife, and navigating the lush forests, has given her indispensable knowledge of the country as a whole. Her passion for Kenya, however, reaches beyond the thrill of safari, as over the years she has spent time on both Lewa and Borana conservancies learning about the incredible work carried out here and the importance of conservation and wildlife protection.

During her most recent time living in Kenya, Jecca worked for a company who ran horse-riding safaris up Mount Kenya, an area that is very close to her heart. On top of this, she volunteered for the Mount Kenya Trust, where she was able to help with supporting local communities and preserving the delicate balance of Kenya’s ecosystems. This has given her a deeper appreciation of the part that tourism plays, and so she strives to create safari experiences that showcase not only Africa’s natural wonders, but also the importance of conservation and wildlife protection.

Although Kenya is her second home, Jecca has been lucky enough to broaden her love of Africa across the continent, as she has visited both Tanzania and South Africa a number of times. With two decades of exploration under her belt, Jecca hopes to extend her expertise and insight into creating meaningful travel experiences for fellow adventurers, where every moment is filled with discovering the magic of Africa.

Jecca is now back and settled in the UK, and she has joined the Yellow Zebra team to continue her passion in African tourism.
