“After a full refurbishment, this camp has become one of the best that Nasikia can offer. The tents are spacious and tastefully decorated, with large verandas on raised and polished wooden decking. The main area sits in the shade of baobab trees, and is fresh, open air, and with a swimming pool! From basic tented camp to tented lodge, but still with character and great value for money.”

OVERVIEW:

Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge offers year-round accommodation in the heart of Tanzania’s lesser-visited Tarangire National Park, renowned for its magnificent elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. Spacious tented suites allow for double and triple configurations, with interconnecting units making this a great option for families. This is a good-value lodge with an ideal location, so those looking for a comfortable base from which to explore Tarangire National Park won’t be disappointed. Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge is operated by Nasikia Camps, which has a portfolio of mobile and semi-permanent camps in prime wildlife-viewing areas of Tanzania’s northern safari circuit. Rates are full board and include accommodation, shared and scheduled game drives, return airstrip transfers, drinking water, tea, coffee, and juices.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge is located in the central part of Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park. The lodge is usually accessed by light aircraft from Arusha or Dar es Salaam to Kuro Airstrip, followed by a 45-minute game drive transfer.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT TARANGIRE NDOVU TENTED LODGE:

Guest accommodation at Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge consists of 15 tented suites raised on wooden platforms and sheltered beneath fly sheets, including ten standard units, two 2-bedroom interconnected family suites, and a honeymoon suite with an outdoor shower. Spaced well apart along the plains, they feel adequately private and boast panoramic views all the way to the Great Rift Valley wall from generously sized decks. Entering the tent through sliding double doors with protective mesh to keep the mozzies out, you’ll find polished wooden floors with sisal mats, netted windows that open fully, bedside tables with reading lamps, a writing desk, and a comfortable sofa. At the back of the suites, room dividers lead to the en-suite bathroom, which includes a flush toilet, twin washbasins, a shower, and storage space. Each tent is fitted with a solar lighting system, and there’s also a Wi-Fi connection. The family unit comprises two interleading en-suite tented suites with a wooden platform that connects the two verandas and wooden rails around the edge to prevent the kids from falling. Access for disabled travellers is available on request.

The thatch-and-timber communal spaces at Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge are connected to the guest suites by a lantern-lit pathway. You’ll find a spacious open-plan lounge, bar, and dining space with roll-up canvas walls, and picturesque views across a bushveld. Meals are usually enjoyed communally around a long table, and the outside deck provides a great space for al fresco dining among the elements. Guests gather around the warmly lit fire-pit for early morning coffee and sundowners. There’s also a decently sized rim-flow swimming pool with sunloungers and a wooden gazebo, perfect for some relaxation time during the heat of the day.

ACTIVITIES AT TARANGIRE NDOVU TENTED LODGE:

Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge offers various activities within Tarangire National Park:

  • Game drives

    – Tarangire might be the least-known safari area on Tanzania’s northern circuit, but it really is a gem of a park, with plenty of wildlife-viewing opportunities. The sprawling plains, open woodland, riverine forest, and water sources support four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – in addition to smaller predators and herbivores such as cheetah, hyena, jackal, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, antelopes, and hippo. Hundreds of bird species keep ornithologists enthralled, including varietals of hornbill, flycatcher, weaver, and treasures such as red and yellow barbet, red-bellied parrot, and the iconic lilac-breasted roller. Vehicle safaris take place during the morning and the evening, with special birdwatching drives offered to keen birders.
  • Bush dining

    – Enjoy a delicious breakfast out in the field, or remain in the park for the whole day with a picnic lunch in a scenic spot. Ndovu’s staff are happy to accommodate your requests.
  • Walking safaris

    – Accompanied by an armed guide, walks are usually available at dawn and dusk, ideal for safarists keen to take a closer look at the smaller lives of Tarangire, including the plants, grasses, insects, and birdlife.
  • Community and cultural visits

    – Guests are invited to visit one of the local villages close to Tarangire Ndovu Tented Lodge to learn about Maasai culture, ancient traditions, and ways of life.
  • Hot air balloon safaris

    – Ascending just before sunrise, marvel at the epic views over Tarangire National Park, followed by a delicious champagne breakfast in the bush on descent. Please note that this activity must be booked in advance.
  • Family safaris

    – Ndovu guarantees a private safari vehicle for families of four persons during low season. During high season, families with children aged under 12 years must book a private vehicle at an extra cost. The lodge’s guides are well versed in entertaining kids with plenty of fun facts, games, and stories!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

I can’t believe how much we were able to experience at Ndovu Camp. After a long climb up Kilimanjaro, this was the perfect setting that offered a relaxing place to unwind by the pool and campfire while offering an abundance of wildlife to observe both on our safari drives as well as at the camp. Some elephants liked to come up towards the tent as they ate and drank, and our drives were rewarded with sittings of lions, a leopard, a cheetah, baboons, zebras, giraffes, elephants and many other animals. And Tarangire National Park does not disappoint when it comes to birds. There are so many species in every direction. I highly recommend Tarangire Ndovu Camp.

The tent was amazing as was the location and premises. The staff were not the most attentive relative to other camps which is why I gave it 4 stars. My guide Tyson went over and above and went out of his way many hours to help me to get medicine when I fell sick. His concern for my well being was extremely touching and it’s because of him I was able to bounce back and enjoy my trip. His knowledge as a guide was top notch and both he and his partner Justine made the experience fun and informative!

What an amazing Tented Camp. The team was very accommodating even though those pesky elephants were playing havoc with the water pipes. The food was great, especially when dinner is served by the camp fire under the stars! Thanks for making our visit a memorable one!

This friendly lodge was full of character. Rooms were very well-equipped, comfortable and extremely spacious. We enjoyed the pool area, sitting around the fire pit before dinner, the special sunsets and watching wildlife (baboon, buffalo and elephant in this instance) from the camp. Meals were all of a very high standard.

The BEST camp that we stayed at - The hospitality, sincerity, attention to detail, access to wandering animals, the food, and most importantly, the staff. No other camp even came close to the joy that was this camp.

Perfect location, great staff, Unbelievable tents which seem more like a home. Only down side was the food. Really not up to par. And the boxed lunches were sub par to be sure. For the money, they really need to step up their game, And when serving pre dinner cocktails please have some small nibbles. Chips, nuts, popcorn, something. The only place NOT to do this.

Tarangire was my favorite park. Disappointed that the staff did not make it clear that drinks were not included until we were handed a bill at the end of our stay. the pre-trip information was a bit confusing. it stated drinks not included but this varied from camp to camp.

A beautiful tent camp surrounded by zebra! This was the experience that I was looking for. All the comforts of home; a good bed, warm shower, and great meals! The staff made the stay here special. They were so kind. The wifi here (unlike other spots) was unexpectedly amazing if that is important to you. I loved staying here in the park and feeling like we were sleeping with the animals!

Great location being located within the park. The staff were great and the accommodation was very comfortable. We did find a number of things broke during our stay ( shower etc) but the staff were quick to repair stuff. Our only concern was that their system to escort guests between tents didn't always work - tricky if as a parent if you want to settle your kids to sleep and then get back to your own tent!
