Choose between half- and full-day guided walking safaris through the forest glades, ridges, and streams, where you’ll meet a world of insects, plants, and frogs. Here, where no vehicles pass through, and the paths are barely trodden, nature remains undisturbed. Perhaps you’ll glimpse colobus monkeys, warthog, buffalo, zebra, and even the occasional elephant. You can also descend into the Ngurdoto crater, where the rich montane rainforest is full of fruit trees that sustain its wildlife. During the dry season, there’s a chance to take a watery waterfall walk, when you’ll amble along the course of the river, stopping to cool off at a mountain stream.

Enjoy a scenic drive up the mountain, crossing the diverse vegetation zones of the Mount Meru Forest, before reaching the Meru Crater. Surrounded by soaring cliffs and the peaks of the crater, you’ll set off on a scenic hike away from the road, and encounter wildflowers, waterfalls, canyons, and the dormant ash cone. Look out for colourful sunbird species, such as tacazze and malachite, and raucous red-fronted parrots overhead.

Enjoy a tranquil two-hour canoeing safari along the shorelines of Momella Lake, where you might come across buffalo, bushbuck, giraffe, hippo, and a splendid array of waterbirds. Please note that the minimum age for this experience is eight years.

Birding is a highlight of this region, where the tremendous variety of species includes bar-tailed trogons, Hartlaub’s turacos, crowned eagles, and white-starred robins, to name a few. Led by an experienced guide, discover the birdlife that thrives within Arusha National Park’s diverse habitats.

Taking a picnic breakfast, your guide will drive you to the Engikaret plains to find one of the rarest birds on Earth, the endemic Beesley’s lark. This terrain is a birder’s dream, where recording over a hundred species in a morning is not uncommon, including the white-headed mousebird, rosy-patched bushshrike, taita fiscal, Fisher’s starling, scaly chatterer, and red-fronted prinia.

Night drives connect you to the forest after dark, when you’ll venture out with a professionally trained guide and spotlight to seek out some of the rare and wonderful nocturnal species. If you’re extra lucky, you might cross paths with a stealthy leopard, though most likely you’ll hear the alarm calls of other animals first! Listen out for greater bush babies, the screech of tree hyraxes, and wood owls overhead. Nocturnal hunters like bushy-tailed mongooses, civets, and genets will also be wide awake looking for their next meal!

A half-day Maasai cultural experience introduces you to the ancient custodians of this land, when you’ll visit a local community and learn about their enduring semi-nomadic pastoralist way of life. Indeed, the name ‘Koroi’ comes from the Maasai word for the black-and-white colobus monkeys you’ll see in the forest surrounding the camp.
