OVERVIEW:
Wilderness Magashi Peninsula is a supremely luxurious safari camp on the shores of Lake Rwanyakazinga within Rwanda’s diverse Akagera National Park. Guests here enjoy wonderful boating and wildlife viewing, including sightings of tree-climbing lion as well as white and black rhinos.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Wilderness Magashi Peninsula is located on a 4,200-hectare exclusive-use area within Akagera National Park overlooking Lake Rwanyakazinga. Guests arrive at Kigali International Airport. From there, it’s approximately 3.5 hours by car to Akagera National Park, followed by a 1-hour drive and a quick boat ride across to the camp. The faster option is to fly by helicopter from Kigali to the helipad.

Accommodation at Wilderness Magashi Peninsula comprises two large, luxury twin suites and an exclusive-use 2-bedroom private villa. Elevated on wooden decks to maximise panoramic lake views, each unit is spaced 200 metres apart for total seclusion. Each suite features a romantic star-bed, ideal for evenings spent gazing up at the African night sky, while every private verandas has a plunge pool overlooking the lake, where you might spot a wading croc, a resident hippo pod, and game wandering freely on the Magashi Peninsula. The interiors blend smart olive tones with geometric Imigongo patterns, raffia textures, and local crafts. Equally indulgent, each en-suite bathroom features twin vanities, a free-standing bath-tub, and a walk-in rain shower with unobstructed views. For families or small groups, the ideal option is the private villa, complete with a dedicated guide, in-house dining, and a flexible space for a gym or children’s room. The villa also has its own living space with a lounge, dining area, kitchen, and plunge pool.

Game drives
– Magashi is the only private access area in Akagera, making game drives here truly exclusive. Learn all about the conservation work involved in reintroducing wildlife, such as lion and black rhino, into the area. You’ll also likely encounter elephant, buffalo, Maasai giraffe, zebra, and perhaps even the odd leopard. -
Night drives
– By night, an intriguing world unfolds as nocturnal species emerge. Led by your experienced guide, venture through the park with filtered spotlights, keeping an eye out for elusive creatures big and small. Listen out for a lion’s roar, a hyena whooping in the distance, or a jackal’s cry. Night drives in the bush are always thrilling! -
Boating
