"Competing with Azura Benguerra for best property in the Barazuto Archipelago, &Beyond Benguerra is the longest-standing property in the region. Excellent value to be had here when you combine the property with &Beyond's safari camps."

OVERVIEW:

Although Benguerra Lodge is the oldest lodge in the area, it is a wonderfully characterful old lodge that has long been one of our Bazaruto favourites. The area is famous for its fabulous white beaches, excellent fishing and first-class scuba diving and snorkelling. It was declared a National Park in 1971.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Just over an hour’s flight from Johannesburg, the island is approximately 11 km by 5.5 km.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT BENGUERRA LODGE:

The 13 rooms are located along the beach in well-kept gardens that have had three decades to develop into the most charming grounds of any southern Mozambique lodge. There are two categories of rooms – the Casitas and the Cabanas. The former are the finer, each with its own plunge pool on a private deck, whereas the Cabanas are more economical options that offer great value for a lodge of this quality. There is also a two-bedroom villa with its own swimming pool on the wooden deck outside. There is a large lounge, a restaurant serving traditional Mozambiquan cuisine, and a fabulous bar made from an old dhow sailing boat. There is also a good sized pool and a small spa.

ACTIVITIES AT BENGUERRA LODGE:

  • Not only is Benguerra known for its fantastic diving and snorkelling, but fishing here is regarded as some of the best deep sea fly fishing in the world.
  • Other activities include 4x4 drives across the island, dhow cruises, sea kayaking, catamaran cruises, village visits, island walks and birdwatching (the island is home to 140 species of bird).

WOW!!! &Beyond Benguerra Island was purely paradise. From the ride in on the helicopter over the crystal clear blue water, to the wonderful staff greeting you upon arrival, you are treated like royalty throughout your entire stay and it is just an incredible experience. The food, the butlers, and all of the incredible activities truly make this place magical. We did everything that was included in the stay (horseback riding, castaway picnic, sunset boat cruise) and even added on scuba diving. It was honestly magnificent! We had not heard of this place until Yellow Zebra recommended and can't imagine our trip without our stay here.
