“4 Rivers is located in the impressive Kwara Concession, literally one of the very best all-round reserves in the Okavango Delta! Sister camp to both Splash and Kwara, 4 Rivers will offer the Delta’s best-value private reserve game-viewing experience.”

OVERVIEW:

Brand new for 2023, this latest offering from Kwando Safaris has all the ingredients needed for a great property! With first-rate guide and spotter teams, an excellent location boasting both the permanent waterways of Moremi to the east, and the savannah plains and forests of Maboa Island to the west, 4 Rivers is a great addition to the Delta. Having secured a spot that’s both remote and excellent for game, the camp overlooks a permanent lagoon and has an exciting list of both wet and dry activities. Luxurious yet authentic in style and with a competitive price point, 4 Rivers is sure to become a new favourite.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

4 Rivers is located in the Kwara Private Reserve, a vast 175,000-hectare area of protected wilderness. Open plains meet permanent waterways and forested islands in this unexplored and remote part of the Okavango. This is the second-largest reserve in Botswana, and no other camps have access to this part of the Delta so it’s a truly exclusive and vehicle-free safari experience! The camp borders the Moremi Game Reserve and benefits from the movement of animals between the two parks. Predator numbers are high, and you can also see large prides of lion, the rare wild dog, cheetah, giraffe, hippo, and elephant, to name a few. To access the camp, you would fly by scheduled light aircraft into its Kwara airstrip, which is 15 minutes’ game drive away.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT 4 RIVERS:

4 Rivers is a traditional safari camp, featuring nine spacious tents on raised decking with views overlooking the Delta. One tent is larger than the others, and can be used as a family unit. The emphasis is on location and supreme guiding (which is the calling card of Kwando, with the company’s high-quality guide/spotter teams), rather than the super-luxury of other camps in Botswana. But this is the point – an affordable price for one of the best game areas in the Delta. While 4 Rivers doesn’t have the whistles and bells of some of its neighbours, it certainly is comfortable and well designed. The food is excellent, and the staff here create a wonderfully homely safari atmosphere.

The main area is comfortable and has seating for afternoon relaxation between safari activities. Dining is usually communal, so you can swap stories and get to know everyone in camp, but private dining is also possible upon request if you fancy a special night on your own al fresco. There’s a swimming pool too, for cooling off in the heat of the day!

ACTIVITIES AT 4 RIVERS:

The camp benefits from both wet and dry activities, amidst permanent waterways, forests and open plains. In terms of safari options, it doesn’t get much better than this! Please note that, while the camp allows children from 6 years, there are some safari activities that have an older age restriction.

  • Expertly guided game drives

    – Morning, afternoon, and night game drives are available in the private reserve. These are taken in 4x4 vehicles with an experienced guide. They can off-road drive here, and the wealth of game is magnificent.
  • Walking safaris (12+ years)

    – Accompanied by an expert guide, armed for your protection, this activity is perfect for travellers who want to get to know the smaller lives of Delta, such as the area’s plants, insects, and hundreds of types of bird. You can occasionally track big game too.
  • Night driving

    – Head out on a torch-lit drive, always an unforgettable experience seeing what goes on in the dark of the night! There are many interesting nocturnal species to spot here, and occasionally predators who have made a kill.
  • Mokoro canoes (12+ years, seasonal)

You can also view the wildlife of the waters from aboard a mokoro, a dug-out canoe. As the mokoro doesn’t have a motor, you’ll be able to dedicate your full attention to the sounds of the mammals, reptiles, and birds all around you. It’s a magical way to glide down the river.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
