4 Rivers is a traditional tented camp in the Okavango Delta’s Kwara Private Reserve, a vast 175,000-hectare area of protected wilderness where open plains meet permanent waterways and forested islands. It overlooks a permanent lagoon and offers an exciting range of land- and water-based activities, complemented by first-rate guide and tracking teams. With an excellent location bordering Moremi Game Reserve to the east and the savanna plains and forests of Maboa Island to the west, 4 Rivers delivers fully on wildlife diversity. Though it doesn’t match the super-luxury of other camps in Botswana, the camp offers affordable prices for one of the best game areas in the Delta. Rates are full board and include all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, scheduled activities, and a laundry service.

Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Consistently great
4 Rivers is located in the impressive Kwara Concession, literally one of the very best all-round reserves in the Okavango Delta! Sister camp to both Splash and Kwara, 4 Rivers will offer the Delta’s best-value private reserve game-viewing experience.

Activities

4 Rivers benefits from both wet and dry activities amidst permanent waterways, forests, and open plains. In terms of safari options, it doesn’t get much better than this! Please note that while the camp allows children from 6 years, there are some safari activities that have an older age restriction.

  • Morning and afternoon game drives are taken in 4×4 vehicles with a maximum of six per vehicle for a guaranteed window seat. Led by an experienced guide, off-road driving is permitted here, and the variety of game is magnificent, with frequent sightings of African wild dog, lion, elephant, leopard, huge herds of zebra, and sable antelope, to name a few.

  • Accompanied by an expert guide armed for your protection, walking safaris are perfect for travellers who want to get to know the smaller lives of the Delta, including its plants, insects, and hundreds of types of birds. You can occasionally track big game too. Please note that the minimum age for this activity is 12 years.

  • Head out on a flashlight-lit night drive, and experience the bush in the dark of the night! There are many fascinating nocturnal species to spot here, including bush babies, bats, owls, genet cats, porcupines, and occasionally predators who have made a kill.

  • Aboard a mokoro, a dug-out canoe, glide silently along the sun-flecked channels of the Okavango Delta, taking in the wildlife that congregates on the water’s edge. As the mokoro doesn’t have a motor, you can dedicate your full attention to the sounds of mammals, reptiles, and birds all around you. It’s a magical way to experience the Delta in all its glory. Please note that mokoro rides are seasonal, and the minimum age for this activity is 12.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Access & Location

4 Rivers is located on the western side of the Kwara Private Concession, covering 175,000 hectares in the northern Okavango Delta. This is the second-largest reserve in Botswana , and no other camps have access to this part of the Delta , so it’s a truly exclusive and vehicle-free safari experience. The camp borders Moremi Game Reserve and benefits from the movement of animals between the two parks. Predator numbers are high, and you can also see large prides of lion, African wild dog, cheetah, giraffe, hippo, and elephant, to name a few. Access is by light aircraft (approximately 30 minutes’ flying time from Maun), followed by a 20-minute game drive to the camp.

Dining is usually communal, so you can swap stories and get to know everyone in camp, but private dining is also available upon request for a special evening al fresco. There’s also a plunge pool with sunloungers and shade for cooling off during the hotter hours. While 4 Rivers doesn’t have the whistles and bells of some of its neighbours, it’s comfortable and well designed, the food is excellent, and the staff create a wonderfully homely safari atmosphere.
