Cape Town
On Day 1, you’ll arrive in Cape Town, where your stay begins at Welgelegen House. This is a charming 16-room luxury boutique guesthouse that offers great value, comfort, and loads of character. You’ll be on a quiet residential street, but within easy walking distance of Kloof Street, which is one of the coolest, most vibrant parts of the city. As it has an ever-evolving mix of restaurants, small boutiques, and independent galleries, you can step out at any time of day, and you’ll find a great spot for a coffee, a glass of wine, or a bite to eat. Equally, you’re only a short drive from the Table Mountain cable car or the historic V&A Waterfront! You have a few full days to explore the city, which can easily include a boat trip to Robben Island, the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, and the dramatic Cape Peninsula, where you can see penguins at Boulders Beach. Lastly, it’s only a 20-minute drive to the Constantia Wine Route, South Africa’s oldest wine route, home to a number of award-winning wine estates and fine dining restaurants.
Greater Kruger
Today, you’ll travel to Ngala Private Reserve, which shares a border with Kruger National Park. Here, formidable lion prides are a force to be reckoned with, and lucky visitors might even catch sight of a rare white lion endemic to this region. That aside, the Big Five game viewing is incredible, and being in a private reserve guarantees a quieter experience. Thanks to the excellent guiding, walking safaris are a highlight. On these, you’ll head into the bush to track big game or focus on smaller details like medicinal plants, insects, and birdlife. It’s good to note that walking safaris do come with a minimum age limit. For a supplement, you could also take part in a rhino conservation activity. The lodge features cottage-style accommodations and is a comfortable, exceptionally well-run base for exploring. &Beyond’s WILDchild programme is full of fun, interactive activities for kids, making this a brilliant choice for families, with plenty to keep everyone interested! If you’re travelling with kids aged 10 and above, you could spend a night at the Ngala Treehouse for an open-air adventure beneath the stars (at an additional cost).
KwaZulu-Natal
Your South African adventure concludes with a complete contrast to the Kruger at Phinda Private Game Reserve, where seven different ecosystems support incredible biodiversity. This is a completely different landscape from Ngala, with varied and unique settings, including ancient sand forests, grasslands, river corridors, and mountain ranges. The next three nights are spent at the luxurious Phinda Mountain Lodge, which offers truly stellar views from its elevated position, a rim-flow swimming pool, and a dedicated wellness space for massages and workouts. Game drives and bush walks are included in your rate, but the activities go far beyond this. You can track big game on a walking safari, experience meaningful cultural interactions at local Zulu villages, observe rhino, pangolin, and elephant conservation efforts, or travel to the nearby Indian Ocean for turtle watching, scuba diving, and coastal forest hikes.
