Access & Location
Kisima Ngeda is located on the shores of Lake Eyasi in northern Tanzania’s Great Rift Valley. Guests usually arrive at Lake Manyara airstrip, following which there’s a scenic 1.5–2 hour drive to the camp.

Walk the ancient mountain trails of the Barai Gorge or embark on the popular Yasaneda Ridge hike with the hunter–gatherer Hadza, where you’ll explore their ancestral lands and traditional lifestyle. A great opportunity to be fully immersed in the rugged landscape while gaining insight into age-old bush survival skills.
Visit a nearby Tanzanian village, interact with community members as they go about daily life, and witness the bustle of market day when you’ll see locals trading cattle and fresh produce.
Amble through fever tree forests and ancient woodlands on immersive guided walks, during which you’ll observe the area’s flora and fauna, including its varied birdlife. The camp also offers a night walk where you get to experience the world that emerges after dark.
Experience Lake Eyasi’s diverse birdlife on a tranquil lakeshore excursion. These mineral-rich alkaline waters attract a spectacular mix of resident and migrating species throughout the year. Accompanied by an expert guide, you might spot pelicans, herons, and storks, or time your visit to see the arrival of thousands of bright pink flamingos.
Meet the Datoga, an ancient warrior people who live a semi-nomadic pastoralist lifestyle alongside the Hadza around Lake Eyasi. Skilled blacksmiths and artisans, they are known in particular for their vibrant beadwork, facial tattoos, and intricate brass jewelery. During this activity, you’ll interact with community members, learn about grazing cattle and goats, see the ancient art of metalworking, and experience a lifestyle that has remained unchanged for centuries.
A truly special activity, whereby you spend a night in a fly camp accompanied by members of the Hadza community. You’ll drive an hour or so from camp to a scenic hillside spot on the eastern shore of Lake Eyasi, where your simple set-up awaits. There’s a tent with a mattress, a long-drop toilet, and a wash-stand, so you’ll be perfectly comfortable during your night in the bush. On your walks with the Hadza, you’ll explore the surrounding hills, stop to look at ancient rock art, and practice hunting, gathering, and foraging in a totally unscripted way. Perhaps you’ll help dig for roots, collect berries, or seek out wildlife to hunt.

Overlooking the calm waters of Lake Eyasi, the communal area at Kisima Ngeda is a simple space to relax beneath a palm-thatched roof as the breeze circulates through.

On one side, you’ll find a bar and lounge with plenty of cozy nooks to curl up in and admire the views, while the adjacent dining room is a welcoming spot for freshly prepared communal meals. Outside, you can climb the elevated viewing tower to enjoy a cold drink while observing the lake from a bird’s-eye perspective. By night, the campfire invites starlit sundowners and social time with fellow travelers. The camp also has a swimming pool on a palm-shaded deck, complete with plenty of lounge chairs and parasols for the warm afternoons.

Kisima Ngeda has eight simple yet comfortable palm-thatched tented chalets on raised wooden decks, all with gorgeous lake views through the palm trees.
Roll-up canvas fronts allow you to take in the beauty of Lake Eyasi from your king-sized bed, while mesh windows let the breeze flow through while keeping insects outside where they belong! The understated style favors natural textures with wooden floors, wicker chairs, and jute rugs. Inside each tent, there’s a relaxed seating area, a writing desk, and a storage unit with ample hanging space. Every en-suite bathroom has a single washbasin, a shower cubicle, and a separate flush toilet. Outside, you have your own private veranda, where two armchairs and a small table provide a tranquil space for morning coffee, looking out to the water.
