Activities at Expeditions Camp take place in the 90,000-hectare NG12 Concession, just north of Vumbura and Duba Plains.
The landscape around Expeditions Camp changes with the seasons, so that each month offers something different. Perhaps you’ll observe an elephant herd wading through a deep-water channel, cross paths with a pack of African wild dog, or see lions stalking their prey. The birdlife is also extraordinary, including the endangered wattled crane, African paradise flycatcher, carmine bee-eater, and Pel’s fishing owl.

Set off on a night drive, just after sunset, when the Delta’s nocturnal species emerge. The solitary leopard hunts after dark, genets and civets move through the bush looking for food, and night-time is when you’re most likely to hear a mighty lion’s roar or a hyena whooping from afar.

Boat rides allow you to explore the deeper channels of the Okavango Delta, where the landscape takes on a completely different perspective. You may encounter elephants, crocodiles, and hippos on your route, besides all sorts of waterbirds.

Guided mokoro rides take you through the shallow channels of the Okavango Delta. These motorless dugout canoes are as quiet as it gets, allowing you to drift along without disturbing any of the wildlife. You might see red lechwe, elephant, hippo, and much smaller species such as reed frogs and brightly coloured birds.

The Tsodilo Hills are a remarkable UNESCO World Heritage site in Botswana’s remote northwest with more than 4,000 San Bushman paintings. You’ll arrive by helicopter and meet with a local guide before setting off on a designated walking trail.

Take off on a scenic helicopter flight when you’ll experience the vastness of the Delta’s extraordinary landscape, with its meandering waterways, deep lagoons, and palm-fringed islands. The doors can be removed for unrestricted views and some incredible photo opportunities.

Expeditions Camp has an open-sided communal mess tent, styled for comfort in the tradition of Jack Bousfield’s original 1920s explorer camps.
You’ll find yourself settling onto a velvet sofa with a book from the reference library, surrounded by an eclectic mix of vintage trunks, Persian rugs, and storm lanterns. Meals are served communal-style around a grand wooden dining table lined with director’s chairs, hurricane lamps, and natural history artefacts. Outdoor dining is equally atmospheric, with tables set beneath the open sky overlooking the floodplains. Unpretentious, back-to-nature, and with a flexible schedule, days here revolve around firelight drinks, stargazing, hearty home-cooked meals, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
Expeditions Camp has eight semi-permanent Meru-style tents, including three doubles and five twins, pitched on the levelled forest floor.
Everything here is designed to evoke 1920s explorer nostalgia while comfort remains the priority. Inside, the canvas is lined with deep red fabric, creating a warm, theatrical interior, where furnishings include antique wooden chests, Persian rugs, four-poster beds, standing fans, and storm lanterns. Each tent has a fully plumbed en-suite bathroom, complete with flush toilet, indoor hot-water shower, and running water. Outside the zip-up fronts, ground-level sitting areas are the perfect place for a quiet morning coffee looking straight out to the floodplains. The camp operates sustainably on solar power, with charging stations and Wi-Fi available.
