Nairobi
On the first day, you’ll touch down in Nairobi for a stopover night at Hemingways Nairobi. This plantation-style property is situated in the leafy suburb of Karen, and all its rooms boast views of the Ngong Hills. Its communal spaces include sumptuous lounge and dining areas, a sunny terrace, a spa, and a heated swimming pool! Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru
From Nairobi, you’ll fly to Lake Naivasha for your stay at Loldia House. For those who would prefer a land transfer, this is a stunning 2.5 to 3 hour drive through the Rift Valley. The Great Rift Valley is the part of Kenya best known for massive numbers of flamingos gathering at the highly alkaline soda lakes – currently, you’ll find flamingos on the shores of Lake Emerentia due to high water levels at Lake Nakuru. Located on the north-west shores of Lake Naivasha in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, Loldia House is a scenic lakefront stay. With direct access to the lake, you can explore on guided boat safaris and see the resident wildlife, including hippo, giraffe, zebra, and antelopes, as well as impressive birdlife such as African fish eagle, cormorants, and kingfishers. Game drives, nature walks, visits to Lake Nakuru, and day excursions to other nearby Rift Valley Lakes are available too (some activities will be available at an additional cost). While here, you’ll also have the chance to switch off and relax in the tranquil setting, before heading into prime wildlife-viewing areas in the Maasai Mara.
Maasai Mara National Reserve
From Lake Naivasha, you’ll fly to Kenya’s most famous reserve, the Maasai Mara, for three nights on a traditional safari adventure. Amongst one of the first tented camps in the Maasai Mara, Il Moran is renowned for having one of the prime locations within the Maasai Mara. This is a small, intimate camp with just ten tents, known for its exceptional wildlife viewing and position on the banks of the Mara River. Each tent is perched alongside the Mara, under a riverine forest canopy. Activities are mostly focused on game drives, which take place each day during early morning and late afternoon. Home to the Great Migration between July to October, the camp sits within easy reach of crossing points where you have the opportunity to potentially witness thousands of wildebeest running the gauntlet and hurtling themselves across the Mara River in search of better pastures. Hot air balloon flights are also available at an extra cost.
