“A brilliant classic safari camp situated in the same concession as the ‘Premier’ Duma Tau and the legendary Kings Pool Camp. Savuti sits to the south of the concession overlooking the Savute Channel. Whether the channel is flowing or even when dry, this corner of the Linyanti offers top-class game viewing.”

Overview:

A traditional-style thatch-and-canvas bushcamp, Savuti Camp is the best value option within the Linyanti Reserve! It offers a great range of activities too.

Savuti Camp is owned and run by Wilderness Safaris. The Wilderness portfolio spans six countries across Safari Africa and it contains three types of property – Premier, Classic, and Adventures. Savuti is a Classic camp, offering authentic accommodation and some superb safari experiences. Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, twice-daily scheduled activities, park fees, and a laundry service. The camp is open all year round.

Access & location:

The camp is accessed via approximately half an hour’s road transfer from Savuti Airstrip. It’s situated on the banks of the Savute Channel, within the southern region of the wildlife-rich Linyanti Reserve.

Accommodation & facilities at Savuti Camp:

There are just seven tented guest rooms. All consist of a canvas tent on raised wooden decking, with a peaked thatch roof that makes for a pleasantly airy feel. Inside, there’s a king-size bed or twin beds with mosquito netting, headboard lighting, two storage chests, and a seating area with two easy chairs and a couple of occasional tables. The en-suite facilities are positioned at the back of the tent, and they comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, and walk-in shower. There’s also a large storage unit in the washing area, with hanging space for clothes and a small safe for valuables. Returning to the front of the structure, you’ll find the private deck, which offers more comfy seating, a table, and beautiful views over the Savute Channel!

The communal lodge at Savuti Camp is connected to the guest rooms along elevated wooden walkways. Constructed from timber and thatch, the lodge is open sided, boasting breathtaking vistas of the channel and its wildlife. In the lounge, there’s plenty of comfortable seating around coffee tables and a selection of reading material. The dining area features one big table where everyone eats together, and it’s set up conveniently close to the camp’s well-stocked bar! Exiting the lodge, and descending onto its spacious deck, you’ll find a circle of chairs around a campfire, as well as an inviting plunge pool. The pool is flanked by sunloungers, and it’s the perfect place to relax in between trips into the reserve.

Activities at Savuti Camp:

The camp provides an exciting variety of activities. Please note, the availability of activities marked with an asterisk is dependent on season and/or whether a suitable guide is in camp during your stay.

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - These take place in the Linyanti Concession, alongside the Savute Channel. For decades, the channel’s waters have ebbed and flowed, but there’s always plenty to see on game drives. The area around the Savuti Marsh features sprawling savanna and thick mopane woodland, and it’s home to a fine assortment of predators and herbivores. Wildlife highlights include lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – four of the Big Five! You can also look out for rarer mammals such as wild dog, brown hyena, and sable antelope.
  • Night drives

    - Guests interested in viewing the nocturnal species of the Linyanti will appreciate opportunities to explore the reserve with their guide after sunset. As well as leopard, you might spot civet, genet, and the prickly porcupine!
  • Walking safaris*

    - Walks are also enjoyed in the presence of a knowledgeable guide. You’ll get to know the smaller lives of the Linyanti – its plants, insects, and brilliant birdlife. Over 450 types of feathery friends have been recorded here!
  • Boating*

    - If the Savute Channel is flowing during your visit, you can board a boat and take a look at the wildlife of the waters, not least crocs, hippos, and various waterbirds.
  • Viewing from hide

    - Not far from camp, there’s a hide overlooking the channel. It’s fantastic for close observation of wildlife.
  • Catch-and-release fishing*

    - Why not while away an afternoon on the water? A nice change of pace from a game drive, fishing also offers chances to observe big game coming to drink at the channel.
  • Star-bed sleep-outs

    - Adventurous travellers will love drifting off to sleep with the sounds of nature all around. This is one of the most memorable activities Savuti Camp provides.
  • Photo hub

    - Both budding and professional photographers can take a little time to finesse their shots of the Linyanti and its wildlife. Please contact a member of the YZ team for further details about this and anything else to do with Savuti Camp.
