“Big, bolshy, and a bit commercial, Anantara Bazaruto might not have the service levels of Azura or Benguerra, but the beach is superb and costs are much more competitive. A good option for luxury at a decent price.”

OVERVIEW:

One of only two hotels on the northern Bazaruto Island, Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa feels like a resort you’d find in the Mediterranean! It’s fabulous for families, particularly those with young children.

Anantara Bazaruto Island Resort & Spa was previously known as Indigo Bay Island Resort and owned by the Rani chain. Today it’s listed in the Anantara portfolio, which spans 13 countries worldwide. We use the resort relatively rarely, as our clients tend to prefer the smaller properties on Benguerra such as Azura Marlin Lodge and Benguerra Lodge. However, if a resort-style hotel is what you’re after, you need look no further – this place is excellent, especially for families. Accommodation is usually booked on a B&B basis, and the property is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The resort is accessed via light-aircraft flight from Vilankulo Airport on Mozambique’s mainland coast. It’s situated within the beautiful Bazaruto Archipelago.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ANANTARA BAZARUTO ISLAND RESORT & SPA:

There are 44 air-conditioned villas, in five categories. At entry level is the Beach Villa, which sleeps up to two adults and one child. This has a king-size bed or twin beds, bedside stands and lighting, and a pleasant living area with writing desk and chair, as well as comfy seating around a coffee table. Additional amenities include flatscreen television, tea-and-coffee station, digital safe, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The en-suite washroom offers flush toilet, twin washbasins, indoor/outdoor shower, and freestanding bathtub. There’s also direct beach access, and a beachfront veranda complete with hammock! Next up, the Beach Pool Villa benefits from all the features of the Beach Villa, in addition to a private plunge pool. The Sea View Pool Villa has a plunge pool set within a lovely sundeck, plus a separate lounge and a dining sala. The Deluxe Sea View Pool Villa can accommodate a maximum of four adults and one child in two en-suite bedrooms, and finally the Anantara Pool Villa boasts its own sunken Jacuzzi with sea views! If you’d like further information about any type of villa, please get in touch with a member of our team.

There’s a great range of restaurants and bars at Anantara Bazaruto Resort & Spa. Golfinho, for example, has a wonderful location overlooking Inhambane Bay and offers delicious Mozambican and Mediterranean dishes. Tartaruga is set on its own deck and specialises in locally sourced seafood. Tasty light bites are available at Clube Naval, as are tropical cocktails! Dining by Design provides signature private dining, and guests are welcome to dine in their private villa – from breakfast coffee and pastries to an evening seafood barbecue, all sorts of tantalising treats can be delivered to you. Communal facilities also include a well-equipped fitness centre, with weight training and cardio equipment as well as a full fitness circuit. There are tennis courts too, all with a view of the Indian Ocean! The ocean-view spa features five treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, and a health bar. And there are two swimming pools – one adults only, and one for families.

*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a Beach Pool Villa, Beach Villa or Anantara Pool Villa, or a room without a balcony for safety reasons.*
