OVERVIEW:
Tau Pan Camp was the first permanent camp within the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Owned by Kwando Safaris, who are famous for their camps in the game-rich area of northern Botswana – Lebala, Lagoon, Kwara and Little Kwara – Tau Pan Camp is one of the best lodges in this little-visited reserve.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Tau Pan Camp is located in the heart of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in central Botswana. The camp is named after the Pan it overlooks, and is designed to blend into the surrounding environment.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT TAU PAN CAMP:
The main lodge is a large, somewhat imposing, wooden and tent structure overlooking a permanent water hole. There is a lounge, a dining room, a library, a small pool and a curio shop. The huge decking area outside is ideal for viewing game and gathering around the fire pit in the evening.
The nine rooms are raised up onto wooden platforms and constructed out of canvas wood and thatch, with gauze netting for windows. They are relatively high spec rooms with outstanding views.
*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a tent near ground level for safety reasons.*
ACTIVITIES AT TAU PAN CAMP:
Activities at Tau Pan include standard game drives as well as short nature walks. These walks are a highlight as they are guided by Bushmen trackers. Tau Pan is primarily a wet season reserve, at its best for game from December through to April. Game-viewing is unreliable for the rest of the year, however the sense of wilderness and open space is an attraction in itself.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
