Spitzkoppen Lodge offers an exhilarating assortment of things to do, really making the most of its surroundings.
Guests can hire bikes to explore the reserve, either by themselves or in the company of knowledgeable guides – in the latter case, both standard and sunset tours are available. Horse riding is also possible, with the exciting option of camping out at night!
If you’re feeling fit, you can have a go at rock climbing – together with Pontok, Spitzkoppe is considered the premier destination in all Namibia for this activity. There are over a hundred routes to attempt, and of course the views make the exertion well worthwhile!
Thrills abound on the ground too, though, with guided tours to many sites of archaeological interest – Bushman’s Paradise, Small Bushman’s Paradise, and the Golden Snake Painting.
Finally, you can enjoy photographic tours, for countless opportunities to capture some really striking landscapes and birdlife – among the feathery friends you can expect to spot here are lappet-faced vulture, peregrine falcon, and the booted eagle, splendid in wide-leg pants.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course
The lodge is located within a private reserve at the foot of the Spitzkoppe Mountains, which are known as ‘the Matterhorn of Namibia’! The area can be accessed by self-driving from Windhoek (4½ hours) or Swakopmund (3 hours). Spitzkoppen Lodge is clearly signposted from the B2, and the track to the property makes for a scenic last part of the journey, featuring big boulders and impressive mountain views.
The communal structures at Spitzkoppen Lodge are linked with the chalets along wooden walkways, and are also elevated above ground.
They occupy different levels – a meeting area and restrooms is lowest, the reception and the curio shop are slightly higher, and the uppermost level is where you’ll find the lounge, dining room, bar, fire-pit, and pool! The interiors are open plan and with the same fresh feel as the chalets. The lounge offers plenty of comfortable seating around coffee tables, as well as a small library. The dining room has fairly funky furnishings in the shape of worktop-style tables and lean-backed chairs. We like the bar too, which forms a perfect semi-circle adjacent to windows onto a fabulous view! The lodge provides a great range of hot and cold options for breakfast, delicious light lunches, and filling three-course dinners. Kitchen staff will also pack up a picnic for guests out all day. Outside the lounge/dining/bar area, there’s Spitzkoppen’s fire-pit and also the swimming pool, in fact a natural rock pool that’s been cleverly carved to provide a relaxing location for a refreshing dip. There’s a deck on this level too, and the scenery is absolutely stunning.

There are 15 guest chalets – two combine to create a family unit.
All are raised above ground level on sturdy stilts and include timber floors and walls, glass windows, and a pointed canvas roof. Inside, the bedroom and washroom areas are divided by a floor-to-ceiling wooden board, on which lighting is positioned and attractive artwork is displayed. There are also twin beds with mosquito nets, a pleasant seating area, and timber-framed glass doors onto a private deck with spectacular views over the reserve! The en-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins with mirrors over, and walk-in shower. Throughout each chalet, there’s a feeling of freshness, perhaps due to the airy blue-and-white palette and the amount of light let in.
