OVERVIEW:
Tucked away down an alley, you could well walk past this hotel and not even know it was there. However, venture into the reception area and you will find a network of stairways leading up to the vibrantly decorated rooms and the famous rooftop restaurant, on the second tallest building in Zanzibar. Emerson on Hurumzi epitomizes Stone Town.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
To get to the hotel, enter Stone Town from the House of Wonders on the Forodhani school side. It is located in the heart of Zanzibar’s Stone Town, just 10 minutes from the airport and a 10-minute walk from the port.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT EMERSON ON HURUMZI:
Similar in some ways to a Moroccan riad, Emerson on Hurumzi is a place of undeniable charm and character. The scenic rooftop tea house restaurant is open for lunch, dinner, and sunset cocktails. There is only one sitting for dinner and service begins promptly at 7pm. It is a set 3-course menu celebrating oriental Persian and Omani dishes, which is accompanied by music played by the Dhow Country Music Academy (only during Thursdays & Saturdays).
There are nine rooms, four double rooms in the main building and three double rooms and two suites in the Peace & Love wing of the hotel. Each room is furnished and decorated differently, with the suites being the pick of the rooms to choose from; however, each is vivid and colorful and dominated by a large Swahili antique bed.
*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a room without a balcony for safety reasons.
