OVERVIEW:
The Serena hotel chain, with its financial clout from the Aga Khan Fund for Culture, transformed two of Zanzibar’s oldest buildings into the Serena Inn hotel as it is today. The hotel is located on the nicest square in the entire town and backs on to the ocean.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Located on the sea-front of ancient Stone Town, overlooking the Indian Ocean.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SERENA INN:
The hotel is based around a magnificent swimming pool, which overlooks the ocean - a welcome respite from what is a hectic little town. You feel a world away from the hustle and bustle that is only metres away. The Inn has approximately 50 rooms including a number of fantastic suites. We specifically recommend the prime rooms which have lovely balconies, yet are half the price of the top suites!
There is an excellent seafood restaurant and the magnificent Terrace restaurant, which is up on the roof of the Inn. The main bar spills out onto the pool terrace which is a great place for relaxed simple lunches.
Our only issues with the Serena Inn are that its service has sometimes let down a few of our clients, and the standard rooms are exactly that – just a little standard! But if you pay the extra for a prime room, we think this hotel is the best option in town.
ACTIVITIES AT SERENA INN:
- Guests have free use of Mangapwani Beach Club that is on the north-west coast of the island.
- Activities include swimming, snorkelling, diving, sea kayaking, dhow trips and nature trails.
