Vehicle and walking safaris are available – and guests delight in spotting the park’s leopard, zebra, wildebeest, impala, sable antelope, birdlife… and tracking both black and white rhino!
The landscape of Matobo is equally impressive, with its wealth of rock formations – island mountains, castle kopjes and numerous boulders. Artworks created by the ancient bushmen over two thousand years ago are also worth investigating – and Amalinda’s guides are enthusiastic in communicating the history of the area.
A tour of a local homestead makes for a great experience – guests take a look around the Matabele people’s huts and learn more about life in Matobo through excursions to a clinic, a traditional healer and a primary school. This really is a fantastic opportunity – highly recommended!
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

The camp’s main areas have superb views of the hills around them.
They include a lounge and library tucked into the rocky landscape, both containing teak furniture and colourful seating. The library is small but well stocked with fiction and reference books. The bar is positioned close by, built into the rock face, while the dining area is adjacent to Reception, down a few steps to a lower level. The dining room has a communal table and a tea-and-coffee station. Lower still, is Amalinda’s wine cellar, from which guests are invited to choose their own bottle/s before moving to a more isolated seating area to enjoy their selection. There is also an outdoor fireplace, courtyard, and of course the swimming pool, which is a very reasonable size! It is surrounded by loungers and is the perfect place to relax in the heat of the day. Finally, the camp boasts its own spa, for massages, mani-pedis and facials.

Amalinda’s guest accommodation comprises nine thatched chalets, linked to the main areas via paths through the rocky outcrops, wild figs and thorn trees.
Each is individually designed to fit among the boulders, with the suites set apart a little to appeal to honeymooners – as well as to historians, with such names as ‘Lobengula’, ‘Rhodes’ and ‘San’! All bedrooms have wide windows with roll-blinds, large beds with mosquito netting, sumptuous rugs on concrete floors, and an intriguing selection of colonial furniture. The colonial theme continues with photography of old Southern Rhodesia on the walls. All chalets have en-suite facilities consisting of flush toilet, washbasin, open-plan shower and outdoor freestanding bath.
**Parents hoping for childcare at this property should be aware that any staff looking after children, do not have formal childcare or safeguarding training. Also, p lease be aware that the swimming pool here has no depth markings or ‘No Diving’ signs, so take care before you jump in! **
