Luangwa River Camp is a small camp with an excellent location on the banks of the Luangwa River.

Operated by well-established African safari company, Robin Pope Safaris, it has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, as well as plenty of wildlife activity to keep guests entertained. This area is particularly renowned for its exceptional walking safaris, led by some of the finest wildlife guides in Africa. Rates at Luangwa River Camp are full board and include all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, two game-viewing activities per day, a laundry service, Mfuwe Airport transfers, and meet-and-greet services at Lusaka and Mfuwe.

  • The South Luangwa is a dream destination for walking safaris, not least for birders, who’ll find more than 450 species here, both resident and migrating. Large numbers of carmine bee-eaters nest, and migrating yellow-billed storks are a highlight during the emerald season. Besides the prolific bird life, visitors will also learn about plants and grasses, insects, reptiles, and animal tracks.

Luangwa River Camp is located on the banks of the Luangwa River just across from South Luangwa National Park. It’s a 1.5-hour flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe Airport, followed by a 1-hour drive to the camp.

Comfy, cushioned sofas provide a great spot to unwind with a book from the reference library, lulled by birdsong and the gentle flow of the river. There’s also a fire-pit with plenty of director’s chairs, so guests can share stories under the stars while enjoying refreshing evening sundowners.

Nestled beneath an ebony grove, Luangwa River Camp offers five spacious brick-and-thatch bush suites, each with sliding doors that open to reveal gorgeous river views from private decks.

The airy, well-designed interiors feature king-sized or twin beds with mosquito nets, headboards equipped with reading lights, writing desks, daybeds, standalone fans, and ample storage space. The en-suite bathrooms are also impressive, each with the same sliding doors leading to the deck, twin basins, a flush toilet, a shower, and a bathtub, some of these sunken. Outside, comfortable seating areas offer guests an ideal space to take in the surroundings and observe any passing wildlife.
