The primary activities at Luangwa River Camp include game drives and guided walks. However, guests can also visit a local village and the Wildlife Education Centre.
Luangwa River Camp offers day and spotlit night game drives in open-top Toyota Land Cruisers, accompanied by professional safari guides. Some of the South Luangwa’s stunningly diverse wildlife includes elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, and a variety of antelope species.

The South Luangwa is a dream destination for walking safaris, not least for birders, who’ll find more than 450 species here, both resident and migrating. Large numbers of carmine bee-eaters nest, and migrating yellow-billed storks are a highlight during the emerald season. Besides the prolific bird life, visitors will also learn about plants and grasses, insects, reptiles, and animal tracks.

Available during the emerald season only, guests are treated to a unique boating experience on the river, offering a completely different perspective on South Luangwa’s wildlife.

Enjoy a visit to Kawaza Village, where you’ll gain insights into the local life and perhaps spend time at one of the schools. Please note that this activity incurs an additional cost, which is reinvested directly back into the community.

Those interested in local philanthropic endeavours can visit a charitable trust that supports school children in the Luangwa Valley, which teaches them about wildlife and conservation.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Facing the river, the semi-open main areas feature a bar and lounge, in addition to an inviting dining space where guests can socialise during communal meals.
Comfy, cushioned sofas provide a great spot to unwind with a book from the reference library, lulled by birdsong and the gentle flow of the river. There’s also a fire-pit with plenty of director’s chairs, so guests can share stories under the stars while enjoying refreshing evening sundowners.
Nestled beneath an ebony grove, Luangwa River Camp offers five spacious brick-and-thatch bush suites, each with sliding doors that open to reveal gorgeous river views from private decks.
The airy, well-designed interiors feature king-sized or twin beds with mosquito nets, headboards equipped with reading lights, writing desks, daybeds, standalone fans, and ample storage space. The en-suite bathrooms are also impressive, each with the same sliding doors leading to the deck, twin basins, a flush toilet, a shower, and a bathtub, some of these sunken. Outside, comfortable seating areas offer guests an ideal space to take in the surroundings and observe any passing wildlife.
