Kibale Lodge is ideally located for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park.
For guests aged 15 years and over, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest is an absolute highlight. Starting a 30-minute drive from the lodge, spend the morning trekking exuberant chimp families as they swing high up in the tree canopies.
This is a 4-hour experience that allows a maximum of six guests per day to spend time with a chimpanzee troop and the scientists researching them.
Accompanied by an expert guide, explore the birding trails in the 150-acre terrain around Kibale Lodge, including Lake Lugembe. The site attracts over a hundred bird species, including Ross’s turaco and the black-crowned waxbill.
Home to over two hundred bird species and eight primate species, including the black-and-white colobus monkey, blue monkey, and L’Hoest monkey, the Bigodi Wetland is ideal for trekking, accompanied by an expert wildlife guide. This is usually a 3 or 4-hour experience.
Accompanied by Volcanoes Safaris head botanist Celine Ishimwe, learn about the reforestation project run by Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust and visit their tree forest on the edge of Lake Lugembe. You’ll also be able to plant an indigenous tree seedling and contribute to the rewilding of the 150-acre Kibale site.
Visit nearby Sadhguru School and learn about its unique focus on arts and cultural education. Guests can also sponsor a child’s education or contribute to the school’s further development.
Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT) supports several schools in a program called ‘Roots and Shoots’. This program encourages schools to incorporate environmental studies into their curriculums and motivates students to make a difference in this area. Guests can opt to visit one of the participating schools.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
A 30-minute drive from Kibale Forest National Park, Kibale Lodge is accessed by air and road. From Entebbe, it’s a 1-hour flight followed by an hour’s drive from Kasese airstrip. There are different options for flying in from other lodges, so please contact a member of our team for further details.
Indoor and outdoor dining options are available, and locally inspired food menus include dishes such as Filinda, a traditional delicacy served at marriage ceremonies.
Kibale Forest Spa has two double massage rooms, a sauna and a swimming pool. All massage treatments are complimentary, and subject to booking and availability.
Kibale Lodge features eight elegantly styled bandas, two standard and six deluxe, each with a private terrace overlooking the Rwenzori Mountains or the rolling hills of Fort Portal.
All accommodations have en-suite bathrooms with flushing washrooms, double vanities, and indoor and outdoor showers. Cozy fireplaces provide warmth during the cold early mornings and evenings, and the interior design features wooden floors, sheer mosquito nets draped over four-poster beds, wicker, traditional Kuba cloth, and natural stone. A personal butler service is included for all guests. Fans are provided, but guests should note that there is no air conditioning. Wi-Fi is available both in the main lodge and the bandas.
