Emerson on Hurumzi epitomises Stone Town. Tucked away down an alley, you could well walk past this hotel and not even know it was there. However, venture into the reception area and you will find a network of stairways leading up to the vibrantly decorated rooms and the famous rooftop restaurant, on the second-tallest building in Zanzibar.

  • Reliable favourite
Emerson on Hurumzi, the old ‘Emerson and Green’ will always be a legendary Stone Town property. There is an argument to say that this property relies on its reputation more than it sets the standards, but we’ve always enjoyed staying here. A quirky and good option for Stone Town.

There are nine rooms, four double rooms in the main building and three double rooms and two suites in the Peace & Love wing of the hotel. Each room is furnished and decorated differently, with the suites being the pick of the rooms to choose from; however, each is vivid and colourful and dominated by a large Swahili antique bed.

*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a room without a balcony for safety reasons.
