Port Elizabeth has plenty to interest history buffs, not least the Donkin Heritage Trail, Market Square, Fort Frederick, and the PE Museum at Bayworld, which features both cultural and natural artefacts.

The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum showcases South African, British, and even Oriental art, as well as international printmaking. We also recommend the Ron Belling Art Gallery, which is considered one of the finest galleries in SA!

The Bridge Shopping and Entertainment Center, Baywest Mall, a medley of markets, and, close to Hacklewood, Walmer Park Shopping Center – if it’s retail therapy you’re after, you can get your fill here!

…and there’s no shortage of restaurants and bars. For more information about dining in Port Elizabeth, or anything else to do with staying at Hacklewood Hill Country House, please get in touch with a member of our team.

The communal areas at Hacklewood Hill are just as sumptuous as the guest rooms.
Guests can relax in exquisitely presented lounge spaces, which feature brocade sofas and chairs, coffee tables strewn with reading material, Persian rugs, and tasteful wall art, all under twinkling chandeliers. The restaurant – Hacklewood Restaurant – boasts beautifully laden tables for full English breakfasts, light lunches, and high teas. Moreover, the eatery is well complemented by its wine cellar, where guests can browse an impressive selection of reds, whites, and champagnes. And no stay here would be complete without time spent in the gorgeous country gardens, taking a gentle stroll, enjoying a game or two of tennis, and relaxing in the saltwater swimming pool!

There are just eight luxurious guest rooms. Traditional in style, all are equipped with a range of modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay.
8 luxurious guest rooms
The rooms are individually decorated, with design inspiration ranging from birds (Flamingo, Loerie, Sunbird) to heritage and history (Huguenot, Madiba). Every room has a double bed or twin beds, bedside stands and lighting, a separate seating area, ample storage furniture, and well-appointed en-suite facilities typically comprising flush toilet, washbasin, shower, and bathtub. Amenities consist of air conditioning, a television with satellite channels, a tea-and-coffee station, an electronic mini-safe, and a hairdryer. A few further nice touches include fine linens, complimentary robes and slippers, and heated towel rails. If you appreciate a little outdoor space with your accommodation, we recommend the ground-floor Court Room, as this has a private patio leading out into the house’s gardens and tennis court!
