Various factors determine the best time of year for a luxury African safari. For the most dramatic Great Migration river crossings, consider visiting the Mara–Serengeti area between June and October. These months are also ideal for Botswana, as they coincide with the peak flood of the Okavango Delta, which occurs during this time, and the dry season in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. From December to March, game viewing in Tanzania and Kenya is also excellent, just before the start of the long rains. There are great opportunities to witness the wildebeest calving season in the southern part of the Serengeti at this time of year.
