Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • Exceptional choice
Nestled in the rugged terrain of the rocky desert, this designer lodge boasts breathtaking views of the towering Brandberg Massif and the often-dry Ugab river. Although it may be one of the pricier options in the area, the exceptional food, service, and attention to detail more than justify the cost. Perfect for escaping the crowds of central Damaraland.

The main lodge boasts panoramic windows that can be folded back to open up the large decking area, which has plenty of comfortable seating and a marvellous view. Have your meals inside or outside, at individual wooden tables laid with pale blue fabric that complement the clean, natural décor of the Lodge. One side of the decking houses sunloungers within a shaded area, while at the other side there is a fire pit with seating, ideal for gathering around at night and sharing stories! Wherever you sit on the platform, keep your eye out for a peek at the elusive desert elephants of the region, a particularly spectacular sight as the sun sets behind the Brandberg Mountains. Finally, the Lodge’s cool V-shaped swimming pool is very refreshing after a long trek across the desert – or at any other time of day!

They are spread around the base of the rocky outcrop and boast truly breathtaking views. For some guests, their square structures may appear a little stark at first glance, but all interiors are very comfortable indeed. The décor continues the neutral theme of wood, whites and blues, which gives the rooms a very light and airy feel. Whether you select one of the four with double beds or one of the five with twin beds, all are sumptuous, with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening out onto a private outside terrace. The beds are raised on a wooden platform and other furnishings include a table and easy chairs. The open-plan bedroom flows into a bathroom area, featuring bath, separate toilet cubicle, and a spacious rain shower!
