Hoodia Desert Lodge’s relaxed atmosphere feels luxurious without any pomposity and the staff make a special effort to look after you. Although it is not the closest lodge to the dunes, you will be able to explore the Sossusvlei area and create everlasting memories. With the top-notch service and the sheer amount of activities available, you may find it hard to leave, so make sure to book plenty of time to fit in as much as you can! Each chalet gives you beautiful views of either the mountains or the Tsauchab River.

  • Go for a hike in the Namib-Naukluft Mountains – or, if you would like something a little more relaxed, take a drive and simply enjoy the view! Head out to the dunes and have quad bike adventures through the sands.

  • Take a guided trip out to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, with a generous picnic provided by the Lodge, and take a look at Sesriem Canyon on your way back. The guides are knowledgeable and will highlight interesting vegetation and wildlife along the way. This hyper-arid region is home to all manner of creatures, including hyenas, unusual insects, jackal and gemsbok!

  • Fly in the sky and enjoy a unique look at Sossusvlei as you take a balloon safari or a helicopter ride.

  • Alternatively, take the horse trails through the Namib Desert and keep an eye out for the oryx, springbok and ostriches who reside there – and if you are lucky, you could see desert elephants too!

The walls are adorned with eye-catching artwork. In the shaded dining area, a large fireplace, which doubles as a barbeque in the summer, is surrounded by wooden tables and chairs. You can select from a menu of traditional and international cuisine, and there is a wide selection of African wines for you to enjoy – with attentive staff ready to advise, you can be sure of finding the perfect wine for your meal! There are large glass windows and doors, which give you breathtaking views of the mountains. The doors open up to an outside terrace, which overlooks the Tsauchab River – this is a perfect spot for bird-watching, and you will not be disappointed by the view! Walk down a few steps and you reach a swimming pool carved into natural rock, with a raised deck.

There are eleven tented chalets set out in a row, well spaced out for privacy, all with beautiful vistas from the large windows – however, be sure to book Chalet One for uninterrupted views of the sunset! From the bedrooms, you can see out of the three sides of the chalet, giving you plenty of light and incredible views.

The décor is in warm shades of browns and there are colourful cushions as well as crisp white bed linen. There is air conditioning, an area for you to make tea and coffee, a small fridge, a safe, and mosquito nets over the beds. Each chalet has an outside bathroom with a changing area, specially designed so that you can see out, but no one can see in from other chalets! There is also an indoor en-suite bathroom with a powerful shower and a separate toilet, with complimentary toiletries and large fluffy towels. You also have your very own veranda, for you to enjoy a little more privacy!
