Peponi Hotel is located in Shela village, which is 2 miles from Lamu Town – a World Heritage Site in the south-east corner of Lamu Island – and at one end of the 12km white-sand Shela beach.

This is a small and personal property, but with a choice of many spectacular settings for eating and drinking – the roof terrace or veranda, beautiful gardens, formal dining room, or cocktails at the locally popular bar.

The freshwater swimming pool, with its hammocks and sunbeds, shelters in the lush gardens but is right on the beach. The hotel provides excellent service in a laidback setting – the food is exceptional, with fresh seafood, including giant prawns and sushi, and traditional Swahili-style cooking.

There are 29 en-suite rooms, all with an ocean view as well as overhead fans, mosquito nets and showers (rather than baths).
