The Cape Dutch-style central area at Grays Eden is surrounded by manicured lawns on one side and the Thamalakane River on the other.
Inside, lofty thatched ceilings contrast with fresh, contemporary interiors, a crisp blue-and-white color scheme, and plenty of natural light. The main lounge feels like an upscale living room in a private home, furnished with upholstered armchairs, a fireplace, and a bookcase. The lodge’s restaurant, The Eden Kitchen, stretches out onto the lawns overlooking the river, where guests can enjoy an à la carte menu built around fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Dining is flexible and includes casual riverside lunches, artisanal picnic baskets, and private in-room dining on request. There’s also a wine cave built into the cliffside for small private dinners and tastings. Outside, a stunning 12-metre swimming pool is carved into the cliff face overlooking the river, surrounded by plush poolside loungers and shaded umbrellas. A covered outdoor lounge provides respite from the afternoon sun, alongside an al fresco seating area for casual, open-air dining. Lastly, the on-site spa features two private treatment rooms with a menu of massages, facials, manicures, and pedicures.
Grays Eden features 12 beautifully appointed standalone accommodations, comprising seven cottages and five villas. Of the fisherman-inspired cottages, four are riverfront, and three are garden-facing, each styled with wooden floors, wicker furniture, natural weave rugs, and cozy fireplaces.
The king-sized beds are draped with mosquito nets and have overhead cooling fans. Each cottage includes a coffee station and a mini-fridge replenished daily with drinking water and milk. All en-suite bathrooms feature a double vanity, large shower, and separate toilet, while private, covered verandas offer a quiet space to admire the views. The exceptionally spacious villas offer an even loftier feel, with high ceilings, integrated sitting areas, and larger verandas. Of these, three face the river, and two are set back. Their impressive, spa-like bathrooms are a highlight, beautifully kitted out with walk-in showers and roll-top bath-tubs. Mobile phone reception and Wi-Fi are available in all accommodation.
