Belmond Eagle Island Lodge is larger and more imposing than many other camps and lodges in the Delta. In some ways it is more like a hotel than a lodge, with extra touches like a mini bar, an internal phone system and air conditioning. While this may appeal to some people, it is definitely not a place for anyone looking for an authentic safari in a camp that blends in with the landscape.

Our Yellow Zebra Opinion
  • One to discuss with us
Located in the heart of the Delta’s waterways, Eagle Island lodge is a luxury picturesque property but one that suffers due to the low concentration of game in the area. Its argument is the fact it offers a quintessential water experience, but we look for more in the lodges we use.

Water-based activities

Game drives

  • There is very little dry land near the lodge, so all activities tend to be water-based and concentrate on enjoying the beautiful scenery, bird-watching and fishing. Outings are made on motorboats and mokoros (dug-out canoes), and guests can explore other islands on foot with an armed guide.

  • Game drives are possible when the water levels are low enough.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
