Trip Itinerary
Victoria Falls
On Day 1, you’ll arrive in Zimbabwe. Your adventure begins at Ilala Lodge, a family-friendly hotel just a short 10-minute stroll from the iconic Victoria Falls. You’re merely a stone’s throw from the town, and close enough to see the dramatic Mosi-oa-Tunya spray straight from the hotel grounds! This location puts all the best activities right at your doorstep. Adrenaline junkies can opt for the 111-metre bungee jump off the Victoria Falls Bridge, the heart-racing gorge swing, or white-water rafting on the Zambezi River. For a gentler pace, visit the lodge’s activity centre to arrange scenic river cruises, guided waterfall tours, or high tea at Ilala’s sister property, The Palm River Hotel. If you manage to catch a moment for some relaxation time, there are two swimming pools to choose from, complete with sunloungers and an open-air cocktail bar. You can also select from a menu of aromatherapy massages and beauty treatments at the spa. Finally, spend atmospheric evenings at The Palm River Hotel, where authentic African-style barbecue dinners are served on a lantern-lit wooden deck right beside the Zambezi River.
Hwange National Park
Today, your location moves to a private wildlife concession in one of the best game-viewing regions of Hwange National Park. Relaxed and down to earth, Verney’s Camp can host children of all ages, making it a great option for families. An active waterhole is right in front of the camp, giving you an incredibly high chance of continuous wildlife viewing from the comfort of the main deck! You’ll spend your days being led by exceptional guides who ensure no two game drives are ever the same. You could run into a pack of African wild dogs on the hunt one day, while on another it could be a lioness drinking at a water source with her cubs. Families with older children could uncover the smaller details of the park on a morning walking safari with a professional armed guide. Being on foot allows you to zoom in on plant life, animal spoor, and tracks, and provides a fascinating overview of the ecosystem. Between game-viewing activities, cool off in the swimming pool or settle into a sunlounger for an afternoon nap. By night, you’ll enjoy authentic bush dining and storytelling around the campfire.
Lake Kariba
Wrap up your time in Zimbabwe with a 3-night stay at Fothergill in Matusadona National Park. This tranquil camp on the shores of Lake Kariba is the perfect way to wind down after all the safari action, while still benefiting from the incredible variety of activities on offer. Head out on 4×4 game drives across the plains to spot lion, zebra, and massive herds of buffalo, or take to the water for boating safaris on the lake alongside hippos and crocodiles. Amble out on guided walking safaris or settle in for a few hours of tigerfish fishing, before scenic sundowners and canapés on the shores of Lake Kariba. Families are well catered for with a mini ranger course for kids, featuring archery, swimming, fishing, and stargazing. The property comprises two camps with plenty of comfy outdoor living space. Freshly prepared meals are enjoyed in various locations around the lodge or on the water's edge, so you’ll be sure to enjoy quality dining and leisure time before your journey home.
