The 350,000-acre private Grumeti Reserve is adjacent to Serengeti National Park and a vital part of the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem. Without the crowds of the national park, guests are free to explore this incredible private reserve, home to some of the most prolific wildlife on earth. During your stay at Singita Kilima, you’ll likely encounter a huge range of wild animals, including cheetah, Maasai giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo, and leopard. Singita Kilima is also a superb base from which to witness the annual wildebeest migration (usually arriving in this region towards the end of May/June).
Alongside a skilled field guide, take in the details of the Serengeti–Mara ecosystem from a completely different perspective, learning all about the animals, their habitats, and even how to identify recent passers-by from their spoor or fresh tracks. This activity is recommended for guests aged 16 and above (though this is at the guide’s discretion).
The Grumeti Fund Community Outreach Program works with residents of the villages bordering Singita Grumeti to realise their development goals. Guests are encouraged to visit these communities and learn firsthand about some of this work, including programmes around education, natural resource management, enterprise development, and water management.
Low light pollution makes Singita Grumeti Reserves a spectacular place for gazing at the night sky with its myriad constellations. Surrounded by the sounds of nature as darkness sets in, observe the stars and galaxies before heading off to dream of the next day’s safari adventures.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
Singita Kilima is located high up on the slopes of Sasakwa Hill in the heart of 350,000-acre Singita Grumeti adjacent to Serengeti National Park. Access is by light aircraft to Sasakwa airstrip, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport or 1 hour from Arusha (if direct). On arrival, guests are met by a Singita staff member and driven to Kilima.
Singita Kilima accommodates a total of ten guests in five beautiful suites, including a main suite, a junior suite, and three additional guest rooms.
Reflecting Singita’s signature style, no feature has been overlooked, with every conceivable luxury detail accounted for. Floor-to-ceiling windows guarantee captivating views throughout, roaring fireplaces keep the evening Serengeti chill at bay, and each room has a writing desk, a fully stocked bar, a private dining area, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, complete with daybeds and loungers. The main and junior suites have their own private heated plunge pools, offering guests an extra degree of space and privacy.
Overseen by a dedicated team of staff, including a field guide, chef, butler, and housekeeping team, Kilima’s main areas include an inviting living and dining area, a kitchen, a media room, and a fully equipped fitness centre where yoga and meditation classes are on offer.
Guests can also choose from a range of holistic wellness treatments either in-suite or on their private deck. The infinity swimming pool delivers spellbinding elevated views of the Serengeti plains far below, there are indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and the boma has its own covered kitchen for al fresco dining. Tailor-made wine tastings accompany the fine dining, and there’s a fully stocked cellar with award-winning wines.
