Expertly guided game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater, walking safaris, authentic Maasai experiences

As mentioned, an excellent assortment of activities is offered here.
The famous Ngorongoro Crater is located just 30 minutes’ drive from camp. All Big Five species may be spotted on the crater floor – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! There are numerous smaller predators and herbivores too, not least cheetah, hyena, jackals, serval, caracal, golden cat, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and antelopes. The birdlife is abundant, with one highlight being the vast flocks of flamingo that frequent the crater lake. Exploring the floor is a memorable experience, and your guide will be on hand to answer any of your questions.

Walks from camp take in the surrounding forest, although it’s possible to venture farther out for a half- or even full-day hike in the conservation area. All walks are accompanied by a Maasai guide and focus on the littler lives of the Ngorongoro – the plants, insects, and birds. You’ll find out how some of the plants are used by the Maasai.

Wayo has partnered with a local village to provide a great range of cultural activities. Village Chief Ole Dorop or one of his sons often visits camp to introduce guests to the Maasai traditions. They’ll happily join you for dinner and walk with you in the region. One short walk that’s particularly popular is to a demonstration of a ritual Maasai Orpult ceremony. For more information about this, or anything else to do with staying at Ngorongoro Classic Green Camp, please contact a member of the Yellow Zebra team.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Ngorongoro Classic Green Camp’s communal lounge and dining areas are set up in the property’s mess tent.
Here, too, you can marvel at astonishing vistas, while relaxing and tucking into delicious food and drink with your fellow guests. Furnishings within the mess tent include a large seating unit strewn with colourful cushions, and numerous safari chairs. All meals are prepared on site, by a very talented chef, and served either plated or as a buffet. Each meal is made up of three courses and private dining is possible on request. Hot BBQ lunches, pre-booked, are also available, enjoyed on the crater floor during a game drive.
Guest accommodation consists of classic comfortable safari tents.
Guest accommodation consists of classic comfortable safari tents. These are Meru in style – an outer layer of canvas extends over the inner structure to provide a pleasant veranda at the front. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views all the way down to Lake Eyasi and the Maasai Steppe. Entering the tent, you’ll find a double bed or twin beds with lighting over, bedside stands, a writing desk and padded stool, and storage furniture. The décor includes vibrantly coloured bedspreads with gold pillows and traditional wall hangings. A curtained partition leads into the en-suite washroom, which contains a flush toilet, washbasin, and shower.
