Access & Location
The camp can be accessed via road transfer from Eastgate Airport, just outside Hoedspruit. Of course your drive time will depend on where the camp has been set up for you, but it’s rarely more than 45 minutes.

The main activity here is game walks, although a short game drive is offered in late afternoon. The first walk of the day begins shortly after sunrise and following a sustaining snack of rusks and hot porridge washed down with tea or coffee.
In the company of your highly knowledgeable and experienced guide, you’ll be out in the bush for 3–4 hours, tracking game such as rhino and elephant, and taking a close look at the Timbavati’s birds, insects, and plant life.
Returning to camp, you can take a hot shower and tuck in to a hearty brunch as your reward for the morning’s exertions!
A little relaxation time comes after that, with guests taking a siesta, reading in the mess tent, or watching the wildlife wander by. The camp’s afternoon tea sets you up well for another walk, shorter this time, and lastly for a brief game drive.
In addition to rhino and elephant, Timbavati Game reserve is home to lion, leopard, and buffalo – all Big Five ! Smaller mammals in residence include cheetah, hyenas, jackals, wild dog, hippo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, and many types of antelope.
The last event of the day is bush dinner, served under the stars.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.

Tanda Tula Field Camp’s lounge and dining areas, in addition to its bar, are arranged within an open-sided pavilion-style structure termed the mess tent.
This has sturdy wooden and metal poles, supporting a pyramid hip canvas roof. It contains plenty of cushioned chairs, occasional tables, a couple of ottomans, some reading material, and almost an entire floor of colourful rugs! A good range of drinks is available from the field bar. Dining often takes place al fresco, with one large table laid ready for communal meals. Please note, although there’s usually a mobile phone signal, it’s pretty weak. The camp has no electricity, so it uses oil and solar lanterns.

Guest accommodation consists of a maximum of four tents, each designed to sleep one or two travellers.
Every tent is shaded by a broad additional layer of canvas, which extends well past the entrance to form a private veranda. This space is usually furnished with a couple of cushioned chairs, a small table, a rug, and a washbasin with a few toiletries too. Inside the tent, there are twin beds, a bedside cabinet for a lantern and other essentials, larger rugs, and two luggage racks. We love the vibrant colours of the rugs and the bedding, not to mention the classic safari vibe! This vibe continues into each tent’s outdoor washroom, where you’ll find an eco-toilet and a bucket shower.
