A small, intimate, owner-run guesthouse, Macaron is the type of property we love to recommend to travellers visiting areas as unique as Franschhoek. The owners’ knowledge of the region ensures you’ll make the most of your time in the Winelands! Macaron is owned and operated by a Belgian family, who fell in love with Franschhoek whilst on holiday here. The guest house is named after the delightful French pastry, which requires some effort to concoct yet provides a perfect little treat. The accommodation is booked on a B&B basis, including parking and Wi-Fi, and the guest house is open throughout the year.

  • Franschhoek is home to a number of frankly world-class restaurants and cafés, many just a short stroll from the guest house.

  • Featuring the work of both local and South African artists, Franschhoek has really established itself as an art destination. A couple of our favourites are Galleria Gibello for wildlife photography and Art in the Yard for impressive new talent.

  • The town has a fascinating history, and it’s particularly well presented at the Huguenot Memorial exhibition.

Facilities

The communal areas within Macaron are also very well appointed.

They include an inviting lounge, featuring stylish tub chairs around coffee tables, a fireplace, and some interesting artwork on the walls. The dining room is similarly chic, with its medley of tables-and-chairs and booth-style seating. Guests can relax and tuck in to delicious snacks and meals outside too, as the guest house offers a number of shady verandas and al fresco seating areas. From here, there are wonderful views of the mountains that surround Franschhoek! We particularly like the garden deck, where well-cushioned seats are set up under parasols. And the two saltwater swimming pools, flanked by sunloungers, are ideal for relaxation in between various excursions into Franschhoek and farther afield.

Amenities

There are nine guest rooms, across five categories.

Starting at entrance level, there’s the Standard King, which offers a king-size bed, bedside stands and lighting, an easy chair and coffee table alongside, and storage space. In-room amenities include satellite television, complimentary tea and coffee, mini-fridge, safe, free Wi-Fi, and bathrobes. Toiletries also come for free, but laundry services incur an extra cost. The en-suite washroom has flush toilet, washbasin, and shower. Next up is the Luxury King, which is more spacious than the Standard room, being able to accommodate a separate seating area, as well as twin washbasins in its en-suite shower room. It has an al fresco seating area too! We feel the standard rooms are just a bit too small and really only suggest looking at the superior rooms upwards. The Superior King and Superior King Suite options are larger still and feature a lounge area with cosy fireplace or even a private patio. Finally, there’s the Superior King Loft, which has particularly lovely views over the guest house’s gardens! It’s fantastic for guests who’d like to feel tucked away. And some of the Superior rooms have an en-suite full bathroom.
