We recommend Bayethe to travellers who like the combination of traditional safari lodge and creature comforts on holiday! Riverdene Lodge and Sarili Lodge are better options for families with children, but Bayethe is hard to beat for its authentic style.

  • Bayethe Lodge is well positioned within the reserve to offer first-rate game drives. These take place at sunrise and sunset, for about three hours, with coffee/tea and sundowners served respectively en route.

  • Guests also enjoy visits to three local centres – Shamwari Rehabilitation Centre, where young, orphaned, injured or abandoned animals are nurtured back to health; the Dr Ian Player Rhino Awareness Centre, where you can learn about endeavours to conserve the majestic creatures; and the Born Free Foundation Animal Research & Education Centre, which focuses on the exploitation of wildlife in captivity.

The communal areas of Bayethe are housed within stone-and-thatch buildings, in the style of an authentic safari lodge.

They include two comfortable lounge areas (one with flatscreen TV), an indoor dining area, a gift boutique, the Bush Relaxation Retreat and an outdoor dining deck. The deck overlooks the waterhole. There is also a traditional boma, where guests enjoy sitting around a campfire and exchanging stories! Internet access is available via the business desk and there is a Wi-Fi connection in the main office.

Bayethe’s guest accommodation comprises 12 detached tents, each sleeping a maximum of two adults.

There are four categories – ‘Bayethe Hills’ king-bedded superior tent and twin-bedded superior tent and ‘Bayethe Luxury’ king-bedded luxury tent and twin-bedded luxury tent. All options are air conditioned and feature mini bar and private deck. The superior tents boast fireplace, television, hammock, and en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, while the luxury tents benefit from IDD telephone, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and electronic safe. The luxury twin rooms have indoor bath and outdoor shower, while the luxury king-bed rooms have indoor spa bath with indoor shower.
