Zimbabwe Couples Safari Holidays

Zimbabwe offers some excellent options for couples’ holidays. Home to some of the finest national parks in Safari Africa, it also boasts Victoria Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world!

Our top properties for couples in Zim are situated in Hwange and Mana Pools national parks, as well as close to the Falls. Both parks contain a wealth of wildlife, while the Falls offers the thrill of extreme watersports in addition to serene river cruises and interactions with animals!

Let’s begin in Hwange National Park, which is in the west of the country. Our first favourite property is Nehimba Lodge, in the northern region. Situated within a private concession, Nehimba provides great game viewing on drives and walks, and from some strategically placed hides! The property contains just seven guest chalets. Constructed from teak wood and thatch, the accommodation feels very authentic. It is romantic too, featuring four-poster beds and luxurious bathtubs. All units boast amazing view of the waterhole close to camp, so you do not need to leave your room to see some of the local wildlife!

Hwange is also home to Somalisa Camp, in its eastern area. Owned and operated by African Bush Camps, this is a very authentic property. Like Nehimba, it has views of a busy waterhole – in this instance, a waterhole that is particularly popular with elephants! Each of the six A-frame guest tents is spaced either along a well-worn elephant path or within a horseshoe shape in the shade of trees. We love the olde-worlde charm of the accommodation, including its dark teak furniture and subtle explorer style. The beds are very comfortable and the en-suite bathrooms are nicely appointed with a big bathtub each and some lavish golden fittings!

Moving north-west to Mana Pools National Park, our first stop is Kanga Camp, in the west of this breathtakingly beautiful safari area. This property is another highlight from the African Bush Camps portfolio! The communal spaces include a dining deck that extends over the edge of the Kanga Pan to yield superb views of a nearby waterhole. Guest accommodation consists of just six Meru-style tents, decorated in neutrals and pleasant earthy tones. Each double unit contains a generous-sized bed, open-plan bathroom, and private veranda for relaxing together and taking in gorgeous views!

Wilderness Ruckomechi, also in west Mana Pools, is another YZ fave. It occupies almost a whole kilometre of Zambezi River frontage, so from camp guests can enjoy sightings of crocs, hippos, and plenty of birdlife! Additionally, the camp’s location within a wildlife-rich concession guarantees great game viewing on vehicle and walking safaris. Classified as a Classic Camp by owner Wilderness Safaris, Ruckomechi has a really authentic vibe about it. All ten tented chalets are spaced along the river bank and each has a private veranda to ensure you get the best sights of the mighty Zambezi. The interiors feature plenty of wood hard furnishings, plus storage units constructed from stones that are held in place under wire frames! This style holds a lot of appeal for adventurous couples. We love the mokoro-shaped brass washbasins too, complete with river view in the background!

Finally, we retrace our steps to West Zimbabwe, to check out one more Zim property. This is Zambezi Sands, some way upstream of the magnificent Victoria Falls. Owned and operated by Imvelo Safari Lodges, it is perfect for couples who prefer to stay at a distance from all the drama! A far cry from the hotels near the waterfall, Zambezi Sands has the feel of a classic safari property. It contains only nine guest tents, all raised up on stilts to maximise river views. Rather unusually, each tent is hexagonal, but otherwise it is just as we would expect – a big double bed, a storage chest, dark wood lending explorers style. There is also a lovely veranda incorporating your very own private plunge pool, perfect for taking a dip together while watching out for all the Zambezi wildlife! Of course, if you wish to head downstream to the Falls for some wild watersports, you are very welcome to do so – or you can remain in the serene surrounds of Zambezi Sands, exploring the area on game drives, game walks, and romantic sunset cruises.

Zim really has a lot to offer as a couples’ safari and holiday destination! For more details, or to start planning your trip, just contact a member of our team.
