ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT BATONKA GUEST LODGE:

The communal building at Batonka is a very elegant affair, positioned within gorgeous gardens and featuring a sweep of steps up to the entrance as well as a line of pillars and a shady veranda. There is plenty of comfortable seating on the veranda and the theme of sophisticated relaxation continues in the interiors. The lounge has ample cushioned seating arranged around coffee tables or adjacent to a cosy fireplace. Either side of the fireplace are shelves full of reading material, while photography of the world’s largest waterfall adorns the walls. Chandeliers hang from the ceiling amid sturdy overhead fans to keep guests cool! Presently no information is available concerning the indoor dining area or bar, but once we have visited we shall be able to update this report! In the meantime, we note that the shady veranda looks ideal for al fresco eating and we are told that there is also a curio shop and a swimming pool. Lastly, the Lodge’s Reception doubles as its activities booking desk – for more about activities, see below!

Guest accommodation at Batonka consists of 22 rooms, housed within four units set out in the Lodge’s gardens. All are on the ground floor, with a balcony showcasing views of the grounds, and each can be configured as either a double or a twin room. Features include bedside tables with lamps, writing desk and chair, colourful rugs, wall photography, television, Wi-Fi, universal charges, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. One half of the rooms have en-suite facilities comprising flush toilet, double washbasin vanity unit, and shower, while the remaining 11 have all these features in addition to a bathtub. And there is a daily housekeeping service!

ACTIVITIES AT BATONKA GUEST LODGE:

When it comes to organising activities, you need only pop to Reception and staff members will be happy to help arrange whatever you wish to do. There is lots to keep you busy in Vic Falls and surrounds!

  • Wildlife and Adventure activities include a day trip to Chobe National Park, horseriding safaris, canoe safaris in the Upper Zambezi, river cruises, and scenic helicopter and microlight flights over the Falls.
  • If adrenaline-pumping sports are your style, you will love white water rafting, bungee jumping, bridge swinging, zipwiring, and a Vic Falls canopy tour!
  • Excursions to the Chinotimba Township are also available – and if you happen to be here during a full moon, you can take part in a Lunar Rainbow Tour. A lunar rainbow occurs at night and the Falls is one of very few locations in the world where it is possible to view this spectacular phenomenon. Raincoats are provided when necessary, but do not forget to bring your own camera!
  • A guide is on hand to make sure you get the best shots. And of course, tours of the Falls themselves are an awesome opportunity to fill your photo albums!

*Big game often wanders along the banks of the Zambezi River and even right into Victoria Falls Town itself. So if you are at your hotel, walking into town, or sightseeing, always be cautious of big game - keep your distance and always move away from it if you see it.
